Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the National Assembly, disclosed this during an event.

Oshiomhole reportedly revealed this during an interview on AIT where he spoke on the mystery surrounding his sack as the national chairman of the APC.

He said it was his competence and expertise that made the late President Muhammadu Buhari win the 2015 presidential election.

“I led my party to victory under Buhari. Oshiomhole said. With my colleague in the National Working Committee, NWC, we were able to fix the leadership tussle of the National Assembly, both the Senate and House Representatives with ease.

“Our president didn’t have to travel around the country to talk to people. We did the marketing, explanation, persuasion and all the tools available to manage democracy.

“Once the system got stabilized, I was sacked through a Zoom and when people couldn’t get me removed democratically, they claimed that eight members of my Ward signed a petition that they passed a vote of no confidence on me.

“And on that basis they went to court, which gave them their interim order. I took the order on appeal. It was quashed by the Court of Appeal. Three weeks later the Court of Appeal called us back and repeated the order. A few days later I saw for the first time a National Executive Council, NEC, held on Zoom in the villa.

He spoke in the National Assembly in Abuja during the ongoing protest for electoral reform.

The demonstration, known as “Occupy the National Assembly,” drew a sizable crowd of young Nigerians who came to voice their worries about what they see to be dangers to democratic accountability and fair elections.

“Is life easier now than when I was in the APC?” Amaechi asked. Compared to former President Buhari’s administration, life is worse now. despite the fact that we intended to eliminate subsidies.

Demands for the real-time electronic transmission of election results, which have caused a great deal of public ire since the Senate rejected the plan as part of the ongoing electoral reform efforts, were the main reason Amaechi participated in the demonstration.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, is prosecuting Emefiele in front of Judge Maryann Anenih in Maitama, Abuja, on four counts of violating the law and committing an unlawful act that harms the public.

Among other things, Emefiele was accused in the charge, designated CR/264/2024, of violating Section 19 of the CBN Act between October 19, 2022, and March 5, 2023, by permitting the printing of 375,520,000 pieces of color-swapped N1,000 notes at a total cost of N11,052,068,062 without the CBN Board’s recommendation or the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s careful approval, causing harm to the public.

The offences allegedly committed by him, according to EFCC, were against Section 123 of the Penal Code, Cap 89 Laws of the Federation, 1990 and punishable under the same law.

On the other hand, he entered a not guilty plea.

The seventh prosecution witness, PW7, Chinedu Emere, an EFCC investigator, told the court during the case’s resumed hearing on Tuesday that Emefiele wrote a memo to former President Buhari on October 6, 2022, requesting permission to redesign, produce, and reissue the redesigned N1,000, N500, N200, and N100 notes while being cross-examined by Emefiele’s attorney, Olalekan Ojo, SAN.

He claimed that in his minute on the paper, the previous president authorized the redesign of the naira notes but mandated that they be made locally.

“The defendant (Emefiele) sought approval of bank notes attached to the memorandum which had been redesigned already.

“The former president ordered that the production be completed. “Approved,” he wrote. but to be made locally,” PW7 informed the judge.

Emefiele cited a number of reasons for the redesign policy, including the public hoarding of naira notes, the high rate of counterfeiting, and the growing scarcity of banknotes in circulation.

The witness further stated that in order to produce the updated notes, CBN raised bills of settlement to Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, or NSPMC.

Asked to confirm to the court if the naira notes were produced by NSPMC, the prosecution witness answered in the affirmative, saying that, “The Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company produced the redesigned notes. This complies with the presidential order that the Nlnaira notes be produced locally.

Even though NSPMC produced the notes locally, he informed the court that a foreign company called De La Rue had redesigned them.

In 2023, he told the court, CBN paid De La Rue in British pounds sterling for the redesign of the notes, and it paid NSPMC in naira for the production.

The witness added that the features of the notes were also products of the foreign company, confirming that De La Rue was the original designer of the naira notes that were later redesigned.

He told the court that the investigation was not focused on whether any Nigerian company had ever designed naira notes for the Nigerian government and that he could not recall any deputy governors under Emefiele mentioning this to the EFCC investigative team over the course of the probe.

The witness also stated that Buhari eventually introduced the updated notes, although he was unable to recall whether the former president voiced any objections.

He informed the court that the EFCC investigation team came up with an investigative report after its assignment.

In the meantime, Justice Anenih ordered the prosecution to provide the defense with the investigative report in order to support its defense, even though Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, the prosecuting attorney, objected to Emefiele’s attorney’s request.

After that, she postponed the case’s next hearing until Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

The lawsuit, brought by lawyer Uthman Isa Tochukwu, alleged that the policy violated the plaintiff’s fundamental rights, including his freedom of movement and dignity. He claimed that the difficulties in accessing money from banks during the implementation of the policy in early 2023 had caused him significant hardship. The plaintiff sought N1 billion in damages from Buhari, Emefiele, the CBN, and two commercial banks.

However, during the court session on April 28, 2025, Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo ruled to dismiss the suit due to the plaintiff’s repeated absence from hearings since the case was filed in 2023. The court found that the plaintiff had abandoned the case and failed to provide any explanation or legal representation for his absences.

Counsel for Emefiele and the CBN, Chikelue Amasiani, highlighted the plaintiff’s lack of commitment to the case and requested the court to strike out the suit. The judge agreed with this request, stating that the case could be revived if the plaintiff showed more seriousness moving forward.

Recall that in a previous remark, Buhari reaffirmed his unwavering allegiance to the ruling APC. Hours after Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, revealed that the former president had given him his blessing before he left the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), he made the assertion.
The APC responded on Saturday with a statement from Felix Morka, its National Publicity Secretary, praising Buhari for quickly clearing the air and distancing himself from attempts by others to implicitly link him to their political decisions.

“For his strong reaffirmation of loyalty to our great party, former President Muhammadu Buhari is greeted and commended by the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement said.

The former president said in a statement released on Thursday, March 13, 2025: “I prefer to be referred to as an APC member. By all means, I will attempt to make the celebration more popular.

We commend former President Buhari for promptly resolving the issue and distancing himself from attempts by some persons to implicitly link him to their unpopular political decisions.

His reputation as a wise man and a dignified elder statesman has been further cemented by the former president’s unwavering devotion to our great party, which served as the platform for his two presidential elections.

“We encouraged our thronging members to follow President Buhari’s admirable example of devotion and dedication to our wonderful party.”

Former President, Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesperson, Malam Garba Shehu, has explained the reason behind Buhari’s absence from the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday.

The high-profile gathering, presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, brought together key APC figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, governors, National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and other stakeholders.

However, notable absentees included Buhari, former Kaduna State governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.

Speaking to BBC Hausa, Shehu clarified that Buhari was invited to the meeting on short notice, making it impractical for him to travel from his hometown, Daura, to Abuja in time.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is not a caucus member of the party. He was supposed to attend the NEC meeting, but unfortunately, the invitation reached him only a day before the event. Even if he owned a private jet, he could not have made it in time,” Shehu stated.

Despite his absence, Shehu emphasized that Buhari remains deeply connected to the APC, highlighting his role as a founding member and two-time presidential candidate under the party’s banner.

“Buhari may not have been physically present, but his spirit was with the attendees. He is and will always be a dedicated member of the APC,” Shehu added.
