Kwankwaso said that although they are looking for a party to merge with ahead of the 2027 general election, such a party must be willing to surrender its presidential or vice-presidential ticket to him.
There is speculation that the former Minister of Defence is currently under pressure to join the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

ADC already has the likes of former Vice President Alhaji Aliko Dangote, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi, among others, who have declared interest in running for the presidency.
Kwankwaso is also said to be being lured by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join and work for the return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

However, addressing his supporters on Saturday, Kwankwaso said that he would only join a party willing to hand him the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.
“We are looking for a party, but they must agree to give me, Rabiu Kwankwaso, a presidential or vice-presidential ticket,” he said in Kano.
Kwankwaso came a distant third in the 2023 presidential election, far behind President Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi.

The Nigeria Customs Service and the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, have emphasised the importance of implementing the National Single Window, NSW.

Both services stated that President Bola Tinubu has given them a target to implement the project by the first quarter of 2026.
This formed the central issue during a high-level meeting between the leadership of the two agencies in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to them, the project is of utmost importance to President Tinubu.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, while speaking on the importance of collaboration between the agencies, said there must be room for the exchange of ideas between them.

“We are here to exchange ideas and have open discussions that will help our preparations for the National Single Window,” he said.
“This project is important to Mr President,” he added, noting that this particular project has been listed among the Tinubu government’s key policies.
Speaking, FIRS chairman, Dr Zacch Adedeji, said, “Mr President has given us till the first quarter of 2026.”

He explained that he was at the meeting to support the Nigeria Customs Service and its Comptroller-General in achieving the National Single Window.

Under the late former president Muhammadu Buhari, South-East railway project was totally excluded, drawing anger from the populace.

The Igbo Community in FCT is now lauding Tinubu for factoring the Southeast.
In a statement signed by Engr. IkennaEllis-Ezenekwe, President General and Emmanuel Chinwoke Onah, Secretary General, the group said “the recent action by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to kick start the process to build lite railway lines in the various geopolitical regions of Nigeria is worthy of commendation and stands in line with the demands of the Igbo Community Association FCT.
“This action on his part is sure to begin to reverse the many years of infrastructural dilapidation that have littered the various geopolitical regions of Nigeria.

“The people of the South East region are particularly elated by this move. This is because of the historic level of neglect by the federal government.”
The Igbo Community while commending the move, said it go a long way to welcoming the people of the South East back into the Nigeria fold.
“We are glad to be considered and regarded as Nigerians again. The President deserves to be hailed for this historic move.

“It will help untie the economy of the south east. When the railway lines come to life, the trade and business activities within the south east will experience a boost that will create employment and reduce restiveness.
“The people of the South East region are hard working people who have shown their ability to develop towns and communities into booming cities across the country,” the group further stated.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Amnesty International, demanding a retraction and public apology for its report on the #EndBadGovernance protests or face legal action.

LEADERSHIP recalls that in November 2024, Amnesty International published a report titled: ‘Bloody August: Nigerian government’s violent crackdown on #EndBadGovernance protests’.

The report alleged that at least 24 protesters were killed and 1,200 arrested during the nationwide demonstrations that held between August 1-10, 2024.

In response, the police launched an investigation through a special panel constituted by the Inspector-General of Police in December 2024 which concluded that the claims in Amnesty’s report were “false.”

Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday, that a letter was sent to Amnesty International on January 6, 2025, demanding a retraction and apology for the report.

“The NPF emphasises that during the protests, the police acted with restraint and professionalism, even at the highest point of provocation and violent attacks, adhering to global best practices and using minimal force where necessary,” Adejobi stated.

He added that the police relied on evidence, including national media coverage to demonstrate their efforts to maintain law and order while protecting peaceful protesters.

According to Adejobi, criminal elements attempting to exploit the protests were arrested and dealt with according to the law.

He expressed concern that Amnesty International’s report undermined the trust and confidence the police had worked to build with citizens.

“This misleading publication harms the reputation of the organisation and demoralises its officers who risk their lives to protect the public,” the statement read.

The NPF emphasised that failure by Amnesty to comply with the demands would leave the Force with no choice but to pursue legal action to protect the its reputation.

The #EndBadGovernance protests were driven by economic hardship, hunger, and frustration with governance.

The demonstrations were largely peaceful but turned violent in parts of northern Nigeria, where some protesters were seen waving Russian flags and public offices were looted.

While Amnesty’s report accused the government of using excessive force, the police maintained that their actions during the protests adhered to global standards, even in the face of violent provocations.
