A year ago, an explosion rocked Bodija Estate in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, claiming at least five lives.

The blast, which occurred on Aderinola Street, Adeyi Avenue, left over 50 houses and several vehicles severely damaged.

The state governor, Seyi Makinde, said the explosion was caused by illegal miners who stored explosive devices in an apartment in the area.

In December, Makinde inaugurated a 10-member committee to manage the disbursement of relief funds to those affected by the tragedy.

He clarified that the government’s support was intended to assist victims rather than serve as compensation.

Last week, the Bodija Estate Residents’ Association announced plans to honour the victims of the explosion with a memorial service.

The association held an interdenominational service on Thursday at the Bodija Estate Baptist Church.

At the event, the association unveiled the faces and names of the five victims who died from the incident.

Additionally, a Jumat prayer will be held at the Bodija Central Mosque on January 17 to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the incident.
