Kwankwaso said that although they are looking for a party to merge with ahead of the 2027 general election, such a party must be willing to surrender its presidential or vice-presidential ticket to him.
There is speculation that the former Minister of Defence is currently under pressure to join the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

ADC already has the likes of former Vice President Alhaji Aliko Dangote, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi, among others, who have declared interest in running for the presidency.
Kwankwaso is also said to be being lured by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join and work for the return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

However, addressing his supporters on Saturday, Kwankwaso said that he would only join a party willing to hand him the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.
“We are looking for a party, but they must agree to give me, Rabiu Kwankwaso, a presidential or vice-presidential ticket,” he said in Kano.
Kwankwaso came a distant third in the 2023 presidential election, far behind President Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi.

Hon. Gujungu had earlier tendered his resignation letter to the PDP and had not stated his decision to join any political party.
Gujungu officially announced his defection at an APC gathering held in his hometown, Gujungu Town, in Taura Local Government Area.

Receiving the decampees on behalf of the governor, Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, said the party is ready to welcome opposition members into its fold.
He noted that the recent mass defection of opposition party members is a result of the good policies and programmes of the party at both national and state levels.

He, therefore, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi for the effective implementation of people-oriented policies under the APC-led administration.
The Speaker, however, welcomed Hon. Gujungu and his followers into the APC fold as a major boost to the party’s strength in Ringim/Taura Federal Constituency.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu said his decision to join the APC was driven by his desire to contribute to and benefit from the developmental strides being recorded by the APC-led governments at both the state and federal levels.

Wellington made the disclosure following Obi’s defection from the Labour Party to the ADC on Wednesday, alongside some LP stalwarts from the South-East.
The defection took place in Enugu State.

Speaking with our correspondent, Ifunanya Obeme-Ndukwe, Wellington explained that the party had been actively involved in opposition coalition talks, which he said had now been concluded.
According to him, the outcome of those discussions informed Obi’s decision to move to the ADC.

“The Labour Parry as it were, has been a part of the coalition discussions and as it is right now, those discussions have been concluded.
“That is what led to the movement of our principal, His Excellency, Peter Obi, formally into the ADC.
“It is expected also that the organs of the party across the various states will do likewise.”

Although he did not give a specific timeline for when other party structures would formally defect, Wellington said the process would be completed within a short period.
Addressing concerns over Obi’s defection to another political platform, Wellington, the leader of the Obedient Movement in Rivers State, attributed the move to unresolved internal issues within the Labour Party, noting that the focus of Obi and his supporters is to secure a viable platform for the 2027 general elections.
He expressed confidence in Obi’s ability to secure the ADC’s presidential ticket but added that even if that does not happen, the overriding objective of his supporters remains the rescue of Nigeria from its current challenges.

Wellington further stated that following Obi’s exit, his supporters no longer have a political stake in the Labour Party.
“We are all very much aware of the challenges that have bedeviled our principal’s political pursuit in the Labour Party.
“We’ve seen that the elements of destruction have sown their seeds within the labor party.
“That is what have led to the challenges that we’ve been having in labor party for over a year plus now.
“So, for His Excellency to have at first started conversation with members of the coalition which came from other political parties too; it was a welcome development to us because, we were looking for a viable platform to pursue the electoral pursuit of 2027.
“As it stands right now, we’re not worried, we’re not perturbed. I believe we have the capacity to take the ticket and even if the ticket doesn’t even come to us, right now what is principle to us is rescue Nigeria from the current situation that we’re in.
“So if our leader decides that he is moving to the ADC, we do not see any reason to stay behind.”

Kalu made the call while addressing APC members and his supporters during a town hall meeting and food distribution held at his country home in Bende, Abia State, on Monday. He said the governor should openly declare for the APC if he was truly supporting President Bola Tinubu.
The Deputy Speaker, who told party members that he had not declared his intention to contest the 2027 Abia State governorship election, said he was still consulting, listening to the national leadership of the APC and ‘waiting for signal.’

He said: “I want to use this opportunity again to invite Governor Alex Otti to join our party. If he comes to our party, we will support him but if they are in another party and they are supporting President, they want to work for the President, fa-fa-fa-, foul!”
Kalu further said: “If you want to work for the President, join APC. The President will not leave APC and support non-APC member.”

He alleged that he was being insulted daily by hired social media agents recruited in Abia State, adding that his activities, including empowerment programmes, were being wrongly monitored and misinterpreted as a 2027 governorship ambition.
The Deputy Speaker said the APC grassroots structures he was establishing across different parts of Abia State would secure total victory for President Bola Tinubu and the party at large.

He, however, warned party members not to append their names to documents allegedly being circulated by mischief makers.

“I want to make it clear that the Kano State party, the national party, and our national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, together with other leaders, do not approve of what is happening.”

Recall that the Director-General of the Protocol Directorate of Kano State Government House, Abdullahi Rogo, had said that citizens of the state and voters have agreed that Rabiu Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Yusuf should defect to the APC from the NNPP.

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused Governor Monday Okpebholo of planning to squander the sum of N2.8 billion to bribe opposition lawmakers in the State House of Assembly to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

According to report the allegation was contained in a statement signed by Chris Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary,
Edo PDP Caretaker Committee.

DAILY POST also reports that there are 13 PDP and one Labour Party lawmakers in the 24-member House.

Nehikhare alleged that Okpebholo planned to spend a huge amount to bribe lawmakers to defect to the APC in the midst of insecurity, incessant killings and kidnapping of farmers and other residents in the state.

The statement dated March 6, 2025 was titled, ‘Edo PDP condemns Okpebholo’s N200M bribery ploy to buy defection of each assembly member. A reckless misappropriation of state resources’.

He said, “The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is aware of the ploy by Senator Monday Okpebholo to splash N200 million each to induce members of the Edo State House of Assembly elected on the PDP platform to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We condemn in the strongest terms Senator Okpebholo’s desperate plans to squander the resources of the people of Edo State on political horse-trading for his own survival, while critical sectors of the state remain in dire need of government intervention.

“In the last few weeks alone, at least 34 innocent Edo citizens have allegedly been brutally murdered across various communities in the State as a result of rising insecurity. While properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed on the back of the ongoing security crisis.

“Small and large-scale farmers are being displaced daily, more communities are being sacked by rampaging kidnappers and herders, while others, including the city centre is being overrun by non-state actors, leaving residents in fear and economic activities disrupted.

“The state is currently grappling with severe infrastructure decay due to neglect. The health sector is in shambles, with hospitals and clinics lacking essential medical supplies, including the Edo Specialist Hospital, where even the most basic consumables are unavailable. More youths now look up to thugs as role models because the government has failed to provide meaningful opportunities for their engagement.

“Unfortunately, amidst all these challenges, Okpebholo’s only concern is his political survival, as he schemes, along with his many political godfathers, to squander billions of naira that should be used to improve the lives of Edo people, on inducing Assembly members to defect to the APC.

“This is executive rascality at its peak and we dare say that this brazen act of corruption and reckless misplacement of priorities is shameful and unacceptable.

“We are not however surprised by Okpebholo’s alleged insatiable appetite for power at the expense of development and security of the State, having come to the office unprepared through the backdoor,” he alleged.

He, however, called on all well-meaning Edo people, civil society groups, and anti-corruption agencies to rise against the alleged abuse of power and reckless misappropriation of state resources.

He restated that as a party, they are undaunted by the alleged evil machinations of the governor and QPC in the state.

According to report the party had on March 3, 2025 accused Okpebholo of allegedly withdrawing N750 million monthly as a security vote even as the state has become a safe haven for kidnappers and other criminal gangs.

The party alleged that the criminal gangs operate with impunity, taking advantage of the deteriorating security situation, while residents and business owners continue to live in constant fear.

Reacting to the allegations, Paul Ohonbamu, the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Communication, opined that if the opposition legislators abandoned their political party it would not be because of any pecuniary consideration as alleged by the PDP spokesman,
but because they are fed up staying with strange bed fellows.

Ohonbamu in a statement dated March 7, 2025 and titled, “Nehikhare’s Defection Story: A lie by the Dead PDP in Edo State’, noted that the lamentation of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state would not help the political party to survive the mass exodus of members to the All Progressive Congress, APC.

He alleged that there are strong indications that PDP would soon cease to exist in the state and that no matter the campaign of calumny and attack against the Okpebholo administration would save the party.

The statement read, “It is not surprising to know that PDP members in the State House of Assembly are going to cross over to the All Progressives Congress, APC .

“Chris Nehikhare lamented in a statement titled, Edo PDP condemns Okpebholo’s N200M bribery ploy to buy defection of each Assembly member, reckless misappropriation of state resources

“For the information of Edo People, The Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo will not give any money to induce members of the Edo State House of Assembly elected on the PDP platform to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“Interestingly, if PDP members in the State House of Assembly decide to defect, it is nothing but survivalist strategy, because Godwin Obaseki destroyed the Party with his bad and wicked policies which apparently led to the defeat of their Governorship Candidate Asue Ighodalo at the polls.

“The fact remains that any discerning and credible politician in the state now knows where the pendulum is swinging to and like they say, failure is an orphan.

“Therefore, it is not strange if members of the House of Assembly want to be on the winning team, because of the good works of the governor which have become the magic wand.”

A group, PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to woo President Bola Tinubu to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying it would prove the Minister’s loyalty to the umbrella party.

The group said this in Umuahia on Tuesday while reacting to a statement credited to the FCT Minister where he allegedly faulted the Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara for his statements praising Abia State Governor, Alex Otti’s achievements.

The National coordinator of the group, Emeka Ikpegbu, who said that Wabara committed no offense trying to woo Governor Alex Otti to the PDP, challenged the former River State Governor to also convince President Bola Tinubu to join the PDP to cement his loyalty to the PDP beyond every doubt.

“Wike should first bring his principal, President Bola Tinubu, who he praises everyday to the PDP before preaching to us about anti-party.

“Is there any anti-party as bad as a former Governor and a presidential aspirant in PDP serving as a Minister under APC? How many times has Wike publicly praised President Tinubu yet nobody has sanctioned him for anti-party.

“Why will he begin to lecture us now on how to sanction members for anti-party?” He queried.

The group, which told Wike to leave Wabara and PDP governors alone, also commended the governors and the party’s BoT for their uncompromising stance in the Rivers State’s political crisis, as well as for affirming Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary based on the Enugu Court of Appeal judgment.

The group which predicted brighter future for the PDP in 2027, urged party faithful to resist any attempt to intimidate those striving to rescue and reposition the party.

The Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Yunusa Umar, has led a mass defection of about 7,500 APC members, including key party executives, to the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Umar, alongside APC Youth Leader, Yusuf Inuwa Bora and Welfare Secretary, Isah Zakaria, officially joined PDP at a reception hosted by the party’s local chairman, Yusuf Sabo, and the Executive Chairman of Dass LGA, Mohammed Abubakar Jibo.

Speaking at the defection ceremony, Umar cited Governor Bala Mohammed’s people-focused governance as the driving force behind their decision.

“Governor Bala Mohammed’s policies since 2019 have convinced us to align with PDP. The interests of our supporters come first, and we believe PDP truly prioritizes the welfare of the people,” Umar stated.

The defectors pledged to mobilize support for PDP ahead of the next general election, adding that Governor Mohammed’s developmental strides have delivered more benefits than when APC’s Yakubu Dogara held the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Jibo welcomed the defectors, assuring them of full integration into PDP and urging them to collaborate in advancing the party’s vision for Dass and Bauchi State at large.
