Subair, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was reported to have passed away in the UK not long after breaking his Ramadan fast.
APC Publicity Secretary Wale Sadare confirmed Subair’s death to Punch in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, saying, “Yes, he is dead, confirmed.” But since I’m in a studio right now, I can’t discuss too much.

The two-term member of the state House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019 passed away just days before turning 60, according to another APC chieftain in the state who asked not to be named.
Seven days before his 60th birthday, Subair passed away in the United Kingdom, according to the source. The party will undoubtedly miss him.

Prior to his untimely death, Subair held a variety of positions within the party.

In other events, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde declared that the people of Oyo State will be key in choosing his successor in the 2027 elections.

According to reports, Makinde made this pronouncement in a statement that was made public on Saturday, March 8, 2025, and that his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, provided to reporters.

The governor underlined that if Oyo State citizens genuinely want continuity, they would choose his successor and thereby control the state’s future.

Additionally, he stated that he would make public the name of the candidate he plans to support for governor at some point in 2026.

The goal of this endorsement, according to Makinde, is to guarantee that the state keeps up its course toward reform and sustainable growth.

Aminat has recovered her freedom, according to Lawal’s buddy Agbakwara, who was informed of the situation and provided an update on Saturday.

“The kidnappers put pressure on us in the early hours of Friday, saying that if we didn’t comply with their demands, we shouldn’t expect her return,” Agbakwara stated in a Facebook post that included a video of the victim.

At 4:20 p.m. on Friday, we transferred N1.1 million to an account supplied by the kidnappers, thanks to the combined efforts and kindness of numerous individuals.

According to Isaac Ayo, the recipient, his sister was also abducted, and he promised to provide the ransom along with his own.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has advised the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Mr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, to defend himself in court rather than making claims through media engagements.

The Chief Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, made this statement during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
“Now that he is back in the country, the right place to prove his innocence and the propriety of his actions is by availing himself for the due process of law and not through a press conference,” Oyekanmi emphasized.

Yunusa-Ari, who is facing a six-count charge over his alleged unlawful role in the controversial Adamawa governorship election held on March 18, 2023, recently addressed the media in Bauchi, where he faulted his suspension by INEC and insisted that Aisha Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won the election.

The former REC was suspended in April 2023 by then-President Muhammadu Buhari after he declared Binani the winner while collation of results was still ongoing. INEC swiftly nullified his declaration and summoned him to Abuja, where his suspension was finalized.

In his latest remarks, Yunusa-Ari claimed he was denied a fair hearing and alleged that there was pressure to declare Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner. He argued that he had written multiple letters to INEC to explain his actions but received no response.

However, Oyekanmi dismissed Yunusa-Ari’s assertions, noting that the matter had already been resolved judicially. “The substantive matter of the 2023 Adamawa State governorship election has been determined through the appropriate judicial process, from the trial tribunal to the appeal tribunal, and finally settled by the Supreme Court,” he said.

The legal troubles facing Yunusa-Ari remain unresolved. In February 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a suit he filed seeking protection against arrest, detention, or prosecution. Justice James Omotosho ruled that Yunusa-Ari’s attempt to shield himself lacked merit.

In January 2025, the suspended REC requested the Adamawa High Court to indefinitely adjourn the case against him.

As the legal proceedings continue, INEC maintains that the courts remain the appropriate avenue for Yunusa-Ari to clear his name.

Earlier, it was widely reported that the national grid had collapsed on Saturday.

TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, however, said the report was a misinformation.

“The TCN hereby states that the nation’s grid did not experience any collapse today, contrary to the widely published misinformation in the media.

“Earlier today, at about 13:41 Hrs, the Osogbo-Ihovour line tripped, followed by the tripping of the Benin-Omotosho line. These consequently affected bulk supply to only the Lagos axis alone,” TCN spokesperson said.

Mbah also clarified that at about 13:00pm, just before the tripping, total generation on the grid was 4,335.63MW, however, after the trippings, generation was 2,573.23MW, showing clearly that the grid did not experience any glitch.

She noted that the transmission line tripping affected Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotoso, Geregu, and Paras, but they have all been restored except for the Benin-Omotoso 330kV line, which restoration was ongoing.

“As TCN continues to work hard to put in place a robust transmission grid, in spite of prevailing challenges. It is imperative that we understand the negative impact of deliberately misinforming the public and the value of disseminating true and verifiable facts,” Mbah added.

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 38-year-old man, Destiny Ekhorutomuen, for allegedly using social media platforms to spread false and inciting content intended to damage the reputation of the police and provoke public discontent.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed this in a statement on Friday, stating that the arrest was made by the National Cyber Crime Centre in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.

“On 8 December 2024, operatives of the Force apprehended Destiny Ekhorutomuen, a 38-year-old suspect, in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.

“The suspect allegedly created and operated multiple social media accounts to spread false and inciting content designed to provoke the public against the Nigeria Police,” Adejobi said.

The police expressed concerns over the deliberate spread of falsehoods, describing it as a threat to national stability, societal cohesion, and public trust.

“This deliberate spread of falsehoods erodes public trust, undermines societal cohesion, and poses significant risks to national security,” the statement read.

Adejobi emphasised that the police have zero tolerance for such actions, warning that the misuse of social media to propagate fake news or incite disorder is a criminal offence punishable under Nigerian law.

“The Nigeria Police reiterates its zero tolerance for acts aimed at threatening the nation’s stability or tarnishing the reputation of the police and other government institutions,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to exercise caution and responsibility in their use of information.

“Citizens are urged to exercise caution and responsibility in their use of information, as the collective peace and unity of the nation depend on it,” he added.
