Ejimakor said on his verified X handle on Monday that Cubana’s loss was a sign that Ndigbo, including those in APC, were not happy with President Bola Tinubu.

It had reported the loss of Cubana Chief Priest in securing the ticket for the APC House of Representatives for Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency of Imo State.

But the celebrity businessman said he never took part in the exercise after the party’s leadership adopted its zoning arrangement.

Reacting, Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer said, “Cubana’s epic loss of the APC primary despite his open fraternity with Seyi Tinubu is proof that Ndigbo (including those in APC) are deeply unhappy with President Tinubu.

“So, it’s Tinubu that actually lost & it’s an early evidence of what will happen in 2027, as I had earlier foretold. And we all know the reason.”

The directive was in a statement signed by the group’s spokesman Mr C. Okadigbo and issued by the Directorate of State.

The group said May 30 was a day to remember those who died for Biafran self-determination especially during the Nigerian civil war.

“On May 30th, we take a moment to remember and honour the men, women, and children who gave their lives fighting for Biafra’s freedom.

“Fight for our freedom 1967 – 2026. “Their sacrifice in the struggle for our self-determination is a defining part of our history and identity,” the statement said.

The IPOB called on the people of the area to mark the day with reflection and symbolic memorial activities.

“We encourage everyone to take time on this day to reflect on their courage and bravery, to tell their stories, and to pay respect to the families who still carry the weight of that loss.

“Light a candle, hold a minute of silence and reverence, or gather with your families to share memories,” the group said.
IPOB called the occasion solemn and said the sacrifices of those it called “fallen heroes and heroines” must never be forgotten.

“May 30th is a day of sober reflection, let us keep alive the memories of those who died for the cause of Biafra, and let their sacrifice remind us why the ideals of freedom, dignity and justice for which they paid the ultimate price must not be forgotten or allowed to be extinguished,” it said.

12-hour total lockdown
The group said there would be a total shutdown of activities across what it described as “Biafraland” between 6am and 6pm on the said date.

“On the 30th of May 2026, the entire Biafraland will be on TOTAL LOCKDOWN from 6am to 6pm at sunset, stay indoors and pray with your family and friends and perform your rituals and prayers according to your faith and belief,” the statement read.

IPOB said no vehicles would be allowed to move during the period except emergency services.

“There shall be no vehicular movement, except for emergency vehicles. All markets and offices will be shut.

It also said: “School owners and administrators and parents are advised to keep their children and wards at home, market leaders, banks, parks, transport companies etc are advised to inform their members to avoid falling victim to trigger happy Nigeria terrorist security officers.”

The group also said it had alerted governors in the South-East and other stakeholders on the planned lockdown.

“The DOS has formally notified all the governors in Biafraland about this forthcoming May 30th 2026, Biafran Heroes and Heroines Remembrance Day. “The leadership will also formally notify other stakeholders by the beginning of next week,” the statement said.

IPOB reiterated its position and urged continued remembrance of what it called fallen fighters.

We remember them! We pay them tribute! “We will not forget their sacrifice,” the group said.

The announcement is expected to increase security concerns and public debate across the South-East as the date nears.

Ejimakor said this while talking about why the “City Boy” movement, a group that supports President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, didn’t get much support in Nigeria’s Southeast.

Remember that the “City Boy” movement chose Obinna Iyiegbu, a well-known hotelier and businessman, as its Southeast Coordinator?

But the last events put on by the “City Boy” movement in Imo State were not successful.

Ejimakor wrote on 𝕏 that his research on recent political events in the Southeast showed that the movement was having a hard time because many young people in the region weren’t interested in politics.

He says that Kanu’s continued imprisonment is the main issue that is affecting people’s political views in the area.

He said, “Based on what I’ve found, the City Boys movement quickly failed in the Southeast because most Igbo youths don’t want to vote in any elections that will happen while Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is in prison.”

“For them, and for now, that’s the #BigElephant in the room.”

Aguocha said that his stance had cost him money and hurt his reputation, but he said he had no regrets about what he did.

He said, “I know what I’ve lost as a member of the House of Representatives for speaking out for Nnamdi Kanu and other constitutional issues, the positions I’ve taken.”

The lawmaker said that because he keeps speaking out, some people have called him names and pushed him to the side.

“I know what I’m losing now because they have marked me as ‘okay he is always on this side,’ but I don’t regret it at all,” Aguocha said.

He said that his stance was based on strong beliefs and a commitment to fairness.

Aguocha also said that Kanu had given him the only job of negotiating his release, calling the move a sign of trust.

He says that the approval shows how much faith the detained IPOB leader has in his work.

The federal lawmaker also said that some leaders in the South-East were wrong for not talking about Kanu’s detention and other problems that the Igbo people are facing.

He asked leaders in the area to be more brave and work together to solve important problems.

Aguocha told Igbo leaders to follow the example set by Yoruba leaders in getting Sunday Igboho released.

He said that everyone needs to work together and in a coordinated way to get the same results for Kanu.

The lawmaker did, however, praise Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, for getting other governors in the South-East to speak out for Kanu’s release.

Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the national president of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday.

Igboayaka pointed out that it could be too late for President Bola Tinubu to recognize that Nnamdi Kanu is the only political figure who can command the bloc votes of Ndigbo, aside from the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is unaware that MNK is an unregistered political party that has considerable influence over the Igbo tribe in old Eastern Nigeria.

As a result, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu continues to be the dominant political figure in Igboland and the current political party for Ndigbo, while organizations like City Boy Movement, Renewed Hope Agenda, and others connected to Bola Ahmed Tinubu will only further the interests of their leaders and provide the coordinators and directors in the South-East with stomach infrastructure.

“None of their coordinators or directors are capable of organizing Ndigbo to vote in favor of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Until Nnamdi Kanu is released from prison without conditions, Old Eastern Nigeria will continue to see Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection as a hoax, a hallucination, and a joke,” Igboayaka declared.

The president of the OYC cautioned that if Kanu stays in custody, Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, or APC, might not receive more than five percent of South-East votes in 2027.

“Apparently, political activities will not be as usual in Igboland, and the APC will not surpass 5% of the votes if Nnamdi Kanu remains in detention, making it an astute political maneuver for Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the release of Ndigbo prior to the completion of primary elections in Nigeria,” he continued.

According to the message, Igbo leaders who abandoned Nnamdi Kanu in prison are about to face a severe political storm and tsunami.

“During the 2027 Ballot Revolution in Igboland, all incumbent political office holders, including members of the House of Assembly, members of the House of Representatives, senators, and governors seeking reelection, will be compulsorily and democratically retired,” Igboayaka continued.

Additionally, the governor expressed gratitude to the people of Enyimba city for their nonviolent behavior.

Speaking at administration House in Umuahia on Friday during his monthly media conference, Otti stated that the Abia State administration took all necessary steps to prevent a breakdown in law and order after learning about the development.

Additionally, he emphasized that the data his agency received indicated that the residents were not subjected to harassment by security personnel.

We express our gratitude to the security services for not using violence against the inhabitants. We also applaud the peacefulness of the Aba people.

Governor Otti stated that his administration will never allow the destruction of people’s fields in response to the alleged actions of herdsmen in certain Abia villages.

However, he advised the people of Abia to report the laws to the appropriate authorities so that appropriate action might be taken instead of enforcing them themselves.

“If a herdsman destroys someone’s farm, we will not tolerate it. Additionally, we advise the public not to enact legislation on their own,” he stated.

Regarding the rising cost of housing in Umuahia and Aba, Otti stated that he would not compel landlords to charge low prices because, in his opinion, the influx of citizens from other towns and the great demand for accommodations are the main causes of the high cost.

Nonetheless, he claimed that the housing estates his government is currently constructing throughout the state would aid in addressing the problems associated with house rent.

He specifically asked Tinubu to either send Nnamdi Kanu back to Kenya or unconditionally release the convicted Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader.

When Igwe Agubuzu was given the chance to speak to the group, he made the demand.

In light of the fact that many political figures who were meant to spearhead such initiatives have all remained mute out of fear, the demand was generally seen as brave.

As Agubuzu discussed Kanu’s experience and how his situation was comparable to that of Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba self-determination activist, President Tinubu, who had never anticipated such a demand at that time, was observed giggling uncontrollably.

Nonetheless, Nigerians both domestically and abroad have continued to praise and applaud Igwe Agubuzu’s demand.

In a statement, three American Igbo advocacy organizations—American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), Ambassadors for Self-Determination (ASD), and Rising Sun Foundation (RSF)—praised the Enugu monarch for telling President Tinubu what many others have neglected to tell him.
“We unequivocally commend His Royal Majesty, Eze Agubuzu of Enugu for his unwavering courage in telling President Bola Tinubu what other Igbo traditional rulers have been too weak, too compromised, or too cowardly to say: Release Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu immediately or return him to Kenya,” read a statement co-signed by Dr. Sylvester Onyia, AVID, Chief Evans Nwankwo, ASD, and Dr. Maxwell Dede.

The only rulers who have openly acknowledged the extent of the suffering, injustice, and agony caused upon our people by Kanu’s unlawful detention are Eze Agubuzu and Eze Chukwuemeka Eri.

“The majority of Igbo kings and chiefs, including the Obi of Onitsha and Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, remain silent while Fulani herder murderers are pampered, Yoruba agitators are free, and the Nigerian state continues to show contempt for Igbo humanity.” Their inactivity is treachery, and their silence is complicity.

We question bluntly: If these so-called leaders are incapable of defending the lives, liberty, and dignity of their own people, what good are their titles and crowns? Leaders that prioritize their own comfort over the good of the group cannot be tolerated by AlaIgbo.

The organizations urged the Igbo traditional leaders to speak with one voice and to stop being cowards and complicit. They emphasized that the days of using veiled words, half-measures, and whispers were ended.

“You may either stand up for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with courage or move aside to make place for leaders who will. “Those who chose to remain silent while our people endured injustice will not be forgiven by history,” the statement continued.

The organizations applauded Agubuzu’s bravery, stating that he showed that a people’s dignity is maintained by moral authority rather than by fear of Abuja.

Similar to this, Prof. Leo Obinna, a lecturer at Michael Okpara University in Umudike, Imo State, has called Igwe Agubuzor a brave and fearless king whose views are shared by the Igbo.

“We demand that President Bola Tinubu grant Nnamdi Kanu unconditional release. Igwe Agubuzor is a brave and audacious ruler. He only shared our thoughts with the president.

Few leaders will speak in the manner that he did. He has my respect and I give him my thanks.

“On Sunday, Igboho committed the same well-known crime as Kanu. While our own Kanu is incarcerated, Igboho has been granted a pardon, and we have heard that the Ooni of Ife is attempting to bestow upon him one of the highest honors in Yoruba nation,” he stated. He claimed that Kanu would have been freed in other countries where justice and equity are valued highly.
Godwin Chinonye, a lawyer, welcomed Igwe Agubuzor’s appeal for Kanu’s, but emphasized that the IPOB leader accomplished nothing.

“What the traditional ruler said was absolutely accurate. People like Kanu were let free in other areas. He answered, “Yes, I am applauding the traditional for what he said.”

Okezie Ohajuruka, a lawyer from Umuahia, voiced his admiration for Agubuzu’s remarks, characterizing the monarch as “the type of leader the Igbo need at this point in time; people who will speak truth to power.”

Afaraukwu, Umuahia, Ikechukwu Ndubueze, the former president general of Kanu’s community, also praised Igwe Agubuzu for speaking the truth to the president.

He urged other Igbo leaders to speak up in order to secure the release of their son, stating that if the IPOB leader had been from another tribe, he should have been freed long ago.

“I don’t believe Kanu would still be behind bars if he were a Fulani or Yoruba man. However, they would prefer that he die in prison since he is an Igbo man,” he stated.

According to Igboho, the project would boost socioeconomic activity in the area and foster an atmosphere that would support the growth of small and medium-sized businesses.

The Monday sit-at-home command, which had been in effect for around five years, was reportedly canceled by Kanu, who is presently incarcerated for life at the Sokoto Correctional Facility for terrorism.

Igboho characterized Kanu’s choice as deliberate and prompt in a statement released by his attorney, Mr. Pelumi Olanjengbesi.

“I want to strongly explore dialogue and mediation with the Federal Government to break the deadlock in his current ordeal,” the statement said in part.

While communication is still a possible route to peace and security, Igboho pointed out that self-determination is still a fundamental right.

“I believe that the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is inclined toward negotiation and mutual understanding for the peace, shared prosperity, security, and the deserved respect that the South-East commands,” he said, adding that Mazi Kanu has the fundamental right to pursue self-determination.

In the interest of peace and progress, the activist also urged those who are purportedly profiting off the region’s instability to stop.

In the interest of regional peace and national economic growth, he continued, “it is equally imperative to appeal to all those who profit from the desecration and despoliation of the South-East through violence to desist from such acts.”

Speaking through his 𝕏 account, Ejimakor asked why Kanu is still being held in custody while Fulani terrorists are being granted carte blanche.

He demanded that those in power since 2015 explain why suspected Fulani terrorists are given preferential treatment while IPOB and its leader, Kanu, are subjected to harsher measures.

According to Ejimakor, recent U.S. initiatives have addressed issues that, in his opinion, ought to have been resolved long ago.

Concerning what he called “unequal treatment,” Ejimakor also questioned whether the government’s actions were influenced by ethnic factors.

According to him, there are still a lot of unsolved questions.

“Those who ruled Nigeria from 2015 to the present must explain why they lavished treatment on Fulani terrorists while targeting the IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who didn’t even qualify, now that America has taken action that should have been taken years ago.”

Is it a result of their Igbo heritage? “So many questions,” wrote Ejimakor.

NIWU, in a statement signed by its chairman, Ben Nwankwo, and secretary, Chief Charlse Edemuzo, and made available to journalists on Wednesday, announced that the formation of the group was informed by the need to address pertinent issues concerning the Igbo people worldwide, “amidst the silence and inactivity of those vested with the responsibility”.
The group listed the conviction and sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu as an example of the injustice and marginalization suffered by the Igbo in the Nigerian state.

Condemning the development, NIWU demanded the IPOB leader’s immediate release, accusing the Nigerian government of violating the sovereignty of Kenya in the manner Kanu was arrested in the country.
According to NIWU, Nigeria committed an extraterritorial border crime in Kanu’s arrest and rendition.

The statement said, “Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) conviction is yet another example of abuse and violation of fundamental human rights by the Nigeria state. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s trial was without jurisdiction. His conviction was based on law unknown to man, hence the trending soundbite “Omotosho show me the law”.
“Ndi-Igbo Worldwide Union is using this opportunity to vehemently and equivocally condemn, in the strongest terms, the kidnapping, torture and extraordinarily renditioning of Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria.
“By this single crime, Nigeria has turned the sovereign state of Kenya, into a human hunting ground, with vague understanding of the gravity of the extraterritorial border crime. We condemn and reject Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s conviction in its entirety, based on nothing other than justice and the rule of law.”

The pan-Igbo group lamented what it described as selective justice in Nigeria, noting that court rulings which favoured Kanu were ignored by the Federal Government.
The group pointed to the Abia State Federal High Court ruling of January 19, 2022, which found the Nigerian state guilty of the invasion of Kanu’s home in 2017, and an Abia State Federal High Court ruling on extraordinary renditioning of Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria. It also cited an Enugu State High Court ruling which declared the proscription of IPOB as a terrorist organization unconstitutional, and the Supreme Court Ruling of December 2023.
The group drew the attention of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, to Kanu’s plight, noting that the association shares in the responsibility of guaranteeing and protecting the right of every citizen under the law.
However, NIWU warned that justice will catch up with Igbo elites who have “seized this troubling time of our people to seek for political relevance”.
“The land will not forget you. To our young men and women (our proud future generation), you have not disappointed us, rather your political elites and some elders in our midst have disappointed you. They have traded your future for their political gains. This will not continue – we assure. We encourage you to keep fighting for your rights under the law,” the group added.
NIWU, in the same vein, lamented the absence of federal presence in the South-East, noting that the government at the center has sidelined the region in major national development programs including railway lines, seaport, cargo airline services, national gas pipelines, among others.
The pan-Igbo group, in the same vein, accused the Nigerian government of intentionally looking away while Christians, mainly Igbos and other moderate religious groups, are being terrorized by Muslim jihadists across the country.
It further lamented that “Nigerian prisons are saturated with Igbo youths in their hundreds and thousands, based on unsubstantiated trumped-up charges as members of IPOB or ESN”.
According to the group, most of the Igbo youths languishing in jail without trial did not commit any crime.
