Oladimeji said that the ADC would only have the right number of votes in 2027 if they ran for president with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Obi.

Fabiyi told reporters in Abuja that the voting strength shown in the 2023 general election shows that an Obi/Kwankwaso pairing would not have enough votes to beat the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I hate to say this, but even Kwankwaso and Obi can’t give us the number. Atiku and Obi are the best numbers.

“The three of them got about 14 to 15 million votes, while the President got about eight million. Nigerians will notice a difference if these groups work together.

“Atiku has said he will back whoever wins. Amaechi has said the same thing. He said, “This isn’t about personal ambition; it’s about saving the country.” We expect Peter Obi to make that promise as well.

On Friday, Onwa also congratulated the new executive committee members of the ADC in Enugu State.

Onwa, who is from Ozalla in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, praised David Mark, the former Senate President and current National Chairman of the ADC, “for leading the party through a successful convention.”

I want to congratulate Professor Austin Akubue and Mr. Chukwujekwu Nebo on being elected Chairman and Secretary of our party in the state of Enugu. I also want to congratulate all the other members of the State Executive Committee who were elected.

Onwa said in the statement, “I believe Prof. Akubue and his team will lead the party to victory in the 2027 elections in the state.”

Even though there was a lot of talk about the party’s recent congresses and national convention, Onwa praised the party’s leaders at both the state and national levels for going ahead with the exercises on time and “successfully.”

The statement went on to say, “I want to thank Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Professor Barth Nnaji, Dr. John Nwokeabia, and other leaders of our party in the state for their leadership, steadfastness, and guidance, which made the ward, LGA, and state congresses a success.”

“I can’t end this statement without thanking the National Chairman of our great party, Senator David Mark, the National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and the whole National Working Committee.

“Every good Nigerian who wants change from the bad leadership that is hurting the country has chosen our party because of their bravery and determination.”

On April 9, 2026, the ADC held ward and local government congresses all over the country. The state congress took place on April 11, 2026, and Prof. Austin Akubue was chosen to be the Enugu State Chairman.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, David Mark led the party’s first National Convention. The convention approved David Mark as the party’s leader, but factional leaders Nafiu Bala and Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives, were kicked out.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), 3,000 delegates were expected to vote for the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), which will run the party for the next four years.

NAN also says that police and Department of State Services (DSS) officers were stationed at the main entrance to the event and checked delegates’ bags and other items before letting them in.

There were security patrol vehicles at key locations with security personnel on duty.

Before journalists were allowed into the venue, they also had to go through very thorough and serious security checks.

The party had been in a leadership crisis because two groups were fighting for control of the ADC.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stopped recognizing all of the ADC’s leadership factions after the court of appeal’s decision and the ongoing legal battle over party leadership.

Senator Dino Melaye spoke at the convention site and said that it would go on as planned, even though people were trying to stop it.

“Yesterday, people tried on purpose to stop us from having this convention. None of the places we applied to were approved.

“At 11 p.m. last night, the owners of this venue tried to cancel this program, but we stood our ground and will go ahead with the convention today.”

Mr. Kabiru Saje, who is on the New Media committee, also said that the convention was meant to either choose new leaders or confirm the leaders who are already in charge.

“Even though the authorities tried to stop the program last night, we stood our ground because it is our right to hold this convention.

“Even though we had trouble finding a place to hold the event and had to move it several times, everything is now ready and the event will go on as planned.”

“The convention should start by 11 a.m., and the mood is good, with delegates arriving and everything in order.”

Saje said that the party still had faith in its leaders, who he said were experienced, strategic, and dedicated to making things better (NAN).

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike on Saturday dared the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, challenging their stance on the South-South zonal congress.

According to report members of the PDP, who are loyal to Wike, conducted the South-South PDP Zonal Congress on Saturday in Calabar, Cross River State, despite a court order against the exercise.

Recall that a High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, had issued an interim injunction preventing the zonal congress from taking place.

But Wike and those in his camp, including a former Governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke, participated and voted at the Congress.

However, the party’s NWC distanced itself from the zonal congress, saying PDP is not in any way involved in the “said gathering in Calabar”.

The main opposition party insisted it has not conducted its South-South Zonal Congress.

However, while presenting a goodwill message at the congress, the former Rivers State Governor said there has never been a congress or convention where all delegates participated.

The FCT Minister charged delegates at the Congress to elect officials who will defend and protect the party.

He said, “The South-South Zone is the strongest zone of the PDP in Nigeria. It has always been and will always be. There is no part of the constitution that says congress should be postponed because of a wedding or travelling.

“There has never been a congress where every delegate was present. I want to assure you that this is the final zonal congress of the South-South Zone. After the election today, no other zonal congress will hold.

“This is our job, our terrain, and we are not new to this. Nobody can intimidate me and I don’t need to be a governor. Let us put ourselves together in truth and ensure our party remains united and we can only be united when we are truthful”.

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has taken another dimension as the camp loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday conducted the South-South PDP Zonal Congress in Calabar, Cross River State, despite a court order against the exercise.

This is even as the National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP said the party is not in any way involved in the said gathering in Calabar.

PDP insisted it has not conducted its South South Zonal Congress.

According to report the recent development comes amid an order of the court against the conduct of South-South Zonal Congress.

A High Court in Port Harcourt had issued an interim injunction preventing the South-South Zonal Congress from taking place in Cross River or anywhere else in Nigeria.

The case was brought by Tony Ejiogu, a PDP member from Ward 3 in Etche Local Government Area, and Field Nkoro, a former Vice-Chairman of the South-East PDP.

However, DAILY POST learnt that Wike participated and even voted as well at the Congress in Calabar, which also had in attendance the ex-Governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke.

Lere Olayinka, media aide to Wike, disclosed this on Saturday via a post on his X handle.

“FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, voting at the South-South PDP Zonal Congress going on in Calabar, Cross River State,” Olayinka wrote.

Responding to the development on behalf of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, stated that the party has not conducted its South South Zonal Congress and it has yet to communicate a date for the exercise

“The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to a reported social gathering in Calabar, Cross River State, where the organizers falsely claimed same to be the South South Zonal Congress of the PDP.

“To the contrary, the PDP states in clear terms that it has not conducted its South South Zonal Congress neither is it in any way involved in the said gathering in Calabar.

“For emphasis therefore, the PDP states that it has not conducted its South South Zonal Congress and it has yet to communicate a date for the exercise.

“The PDP calls on all party members in the South South Zone, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Security Agencies and the Media to disregard any gathering or outcome of any such gathering in Calabar, Cross River State purported to be the South South Zonal Congress of the PDP.

“Our Party will in due course and through its official channels communicate a new date for the conduct of the South South Zonal Congress.

“The NWC commends the PDP South South State Governors, other leaders, critical stakeholders and members of the Party in the Zone for their loyalty and steadfastness toward the unity, stability and growth of the Party in the South South Zone and the nation,” a statement released by the PDP spokesman read.

The National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has nullified the suspension of Adolphus Wabara as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

According to report the Abia State Working Committee, SWC, of the party on Tuesday suspended Wabara.

Similarly, a pro-group of the party, Frontiers for Change and Progress, has dismissed the suspension of Wabara by Abia State PDP Chairman, describing the suspension as a big joke.

The group also announced the expulsion of Abia State Chairman of PDP, Abraham Amah over alleged impersonation.

According to a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the purported suspension violated the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and did not follow due process.

Ologunagba described the action as reckless and unconstitutional, after the Abia state chapter of the party suspended Wabara for endorsing Governor Alex Otti for a second tenure barely five months into the governor’s administration in October 2023.

“The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to the purported suspension of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of our great Party, Distinguished Senator Adolphus Wabara from the Party.

“The NWC categorically dismisses the purported suspension as null and void and of no effect whatsoever not being consistent with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) and laid down Rules of our great Party.

“For emphasis no State Working Committee has the power to suspend or take any disciplinary action against a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party without due recourse to the NWC as clearly provided under Section 57 (7) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017),” Ologunagba said.

The New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, has provided updates on the current state of things in the political parties.

Speaking at a press conference addressed by Dr Ajuji Ahmed, the National Chairman of the party, NNPP reacted to a recent developments where those who paraded themselves as members and leaders of the party held a convention at Apapa, Lagos State.

The NNPP described this as open assault on the integrity of the party and the psyche of Nigerians, saying that such persons are not members or leaders of the party but are sponsored elements.

Ahmed said there is only one NNPP under his leadership as its National Chairman and recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He said it was against the law and against common decency, for any group under any guise to refer to itself as NNPP.

“For this reason, therefore, the NNPP did not have any National Convention in recent times and so we did not inaugurate any new National Working Committee, NWC,” it said.

“The current NNPP NWC was constituted in the year 2022 under the supervision of INEC as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act, 2022,” he said.

“Let me quickly touch on the game some of these former members of this Party are playing, prodded on by some politicians who are scared of the opposition, because they are afraid of their own shadows as we march towards the 2027 elections.

“Immediately after the 2023 general elections, some members of this Party who openly played anti-party activities were subjected to proper disciplinary procedures and were found wanting.

“They were duly sanctioned, but instead of exploring the internal mechanisms put in place by the Party to address their grievances, they decided to release themselves as willing tools to outsiders in order to distract the attention of the Party.

“They have been jumping from pillar to post, going from one court to the other, and swiftly losing one case after another, in practically every corner of the country. They have been to, and lost, in courts in Abuja, Ekiti, Port Harcourt, Awka, Kano, and Katsina, all the time desperately seeking to mislead the courts and abuse all known court processes. All those have failed.

“In their confusion, in November 2024, they took themselves to Court in Abia State, in the name of NNPP. Meanwhile, an Abuja Federal High Court as far back as April 2024 had ruled that, as expelled former members of the Party, they should stop parading themselves as NNPP members or leaders in any shape or form.

“The Federal High Court judgment of 18th April, 2024, declared them as impostors, having been expelled by the party, and as such can neither sue in the name of the party nor against the party.

“This same hired and sponsored emergency collection of characters gathered themselves in Lagos three days ago in the name of NNPP to hold a ludicrous charade of tipsy comedians, when a Court of competent jurisdiction in Abuja on gave a clear and unmistakable injunction against them not to hold that meeting. They defied the court ruling and went ahead to hold a beer parlour meeting in a hotel lobby which they now called National Convention.

“We want to use this medium to inform and confirm to the world that the NNPP does not operate from Apapa, we did not hold any convention this year in any hotel lobby in Lagos.

A day earlier, some members of the party, who called themselves South-East caucus members, had gathered, during which they passed a confidence vote in the embattled National Secretary of the Party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The meeting was undoubtedly not just a counter to an earlier meeting of the South-East PDP held at the Enugu Government House over the weekend, but also a prelude to what was to come during the BoT meeting.

According to report at the Enugu meeting, attended by the leader of the party in the zone, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, the zone restated its support for Hon. S.K.E Udeh-Okoye as the National Secretary of the party.

Anyanwu has been fighting a battle of his political life after he was replaced by the South-East PDP when he left the position to contest the Imo State governorship election.

Ude-Okoye, armed with a favourable Appeal Court judgement, has been laying claims to the position. But Anyawnu says he has appealed the judgement and filed for a stay of execution as well.

The party in the zone has also continued to work with Chief Ali Odefa whose suspension by his ward was affirmed by the Federal High Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

The contest for both positions has seen the members of the PDP in the South-East polarized. While some of them are loyal to the ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar camp, others are in the good books of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The meeting held in Enugu was then meant to re-affirm the stand of the zone ahead of yesterday, Wednesday’s BoT meeting. A communique after the meeting was read by Odefa.

The meeting was also attended by former President of the Senate and BoT chairman of the party, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Senate Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu and other members of the National Assembly, former governors, former ministers, among others.

According to the communique: “The party also deliberated on internal crisis bedeviling the party at the national level and the attempts to encroach on the jurisdictions of the party in the South-East.

“The meeting deliberated on the unfortunate, but contrived controversies surrounding the Office of the National Secretary of the PDP zoned to the South East region.

“In line with the party’s principle of inclusivity, the ZEC meeting equally discussed the zoning of national and zonal offices of the party in the South East region.

“Consequently, the South East Zonal Executive of the PDP hereby resolves as follows:

“That South East PDP is one, big, and united family. We are capable of handling any issues arising in-house;

“That South East PDP frowns at any attempt to fan embers of disaffection or precipitate crisis in the party in the region;

“That the party commends the Court of Appeal judgement upholding Hon. S.K.E Udeh-Okoye as the National Secretary of the party in line with the constitution of our party and the position of the South East ZEC of our party.

“We also remain consistent and united in this position that Hon. Udeh-Okoye remains the National Secretary of our party. We continue to trust the judiciary to continuously do justice on the matter;

“Finally, that the ZEC meeting hereby adopts the zoning of national and zonal offices of the party.”

But a few days later, Anyanwu and his group also gathered at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja under the auspices of the South-East PDP caucus. He received a total endorsement during the meeting boycotted by Governor Mbah and other leaders of the party from the zone, including the BoT chairman, Wabara.

The meeting, presided over by Anyanwu and Okechukwu Osuoha, the Deputy National Legal Adviser, had two major take-aways: ratification of Ali Odefa’s removal as the PDP National Vice Chairman, South East, his replacement by Chidebere Ugwu and a vote of confidence in Anyanwu.

After the confidence vote, Anyanwu asserted that: “I was elected through a national convention, and it is only through a convention that I can be removed.”

Then came fracas at the BoT meeting

All was let loose on Wednesday as the party commenced its BoT meeting ahead of the February National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting.

Prior to the meeting, 11 members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, were said to have clearly abandoned Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman and the embattled National Secretary, Anyanwu.

They included: the Deputy National Chairman, South, Taofeek Arapaja; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, National Treasurer, Yayari Ahmed; National Deputy Secretary, Setonji Ikoshoedo; National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyengikuro and the National Women Leader, Amina Bryhm.

Others are the National Auditor, Obi Okechukwu, National Vice Chairman South East, Ali Odefa, National Vice Chairman North-East, Emmanuel Bovoa, and the National Vice Chairman North-West, Hayatu Gwarzo.

The NEC, DAILY POST recalls, has faced several postponements, and the BoT meeting was a prelude to what was to come.

Already backed by his zone, Ude-Okoye arrived and was seated as the party’s National Secretary, until Anyanwu arrived.

In a viral video, a frustrated Ude-Okoye could be seen being dragged out of the meeting venue by suspected thugs.

He could be heard screaming and urging his supporters to take action.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies made up of the military, the police and the civil defence corps flooded the party’s secretariat.

Damagum, Wabara point accusing fingers

As the dust settled and the BoT meeting commenced, Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman of the party took umbrage at certain actions of the party’s leaders, accusing them of festering the crisis.

However, while he was lashing out at the party’s leaders, the BoT chairman, Adolphus Wabara had all his fingers pointed at the Damagum-led National Working Committee, NWC.

Damadum had this to say: “I want to use this opportunity to assure the BoT just like the (BoT) chairman has reiterated: there is a crisis within the national working committee (NWC). It is normal.

“Unfortunately, I want to say this with a high sense of responsibility, most of these crises that you see today within the NWC are propelled by our leaders who are supposed to unite us.

“It is very unfortunate. I would say it the way it is. We all know the workings of the NWC. Some of you here have been members of the NWC members.

“I’m sitting down here as the chairman only to see my members called by certain leaders to visit certain places without even my knowledge.

“I want to use this opportunity to caution us and our leaders. You may have ambition but you don’t ride on a dead horse to reach your destination.

“If you create a crisis simply to further your ambition, you may get what you want but your dream will not be realised because you have injured the horse you are going to ride to your destination.

“As the conscience (BoT) of this party, some of us are also complicit. We should look inward, and search our conscience. This party is dear to all of us. It is the only thing we have.

“The hope of Nigerians today is in this party. So, we should sheath our swords and work towards uniting ourselves so that they would have a credible vehicle that can challenge what is bedevilling us.”

On the anticipated February NEC meeting, he said, “The last meeting we had with the governors, we all agreed that we would have the NEC. And I want to assure you that we would do everything possible to have the NEC this February.

“You are all aware that we have started the process of zonal congresses. Even at that, I enjoin our leaders to also be mindful of doing anything that can mar these congresses. It is very important to sound this note.”

While shifting the blame, Wabara expressed his anger over the crisis rocking the NWC, just as he tasked the body to ensure that the NEC meeting held as scheduled.

He said, “This meeting comes at a time when the unity, focus, direction and ideals of our great Party are being tested in ways that call for reflection and decisive action.

“Primarily, let me express my profound disappointment over the crises currently rocking the leadership of the National Working Committee (NWC).

“As elder statesmen and women; leaders who hold the trust of the generality of our party members and the public, it is disheartening that these issues have not been resolved.

“The failure to resolve these internal conflicts undermines the strength and credibility of our party. It is, therefore, imperative that the NWC rises above personal interests and places the survival and progress of our great party above all other considerations.

“Nigerians are looking to us as a beacon of hope, and we cannot afford to let them down. We must rebuild trust and offer a credible alternative that prioritizes the welfare of the people.”

In the meantime, the party has commenced measures to resolve the crisis.

During its BoT meeting on Wednesday, it set up a committee led by Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki to interface with the parties involved in the crisis, study the situation and report to the Board for further action.

A communique issued at the end of its 79th BoT meeting read: “The Board of Trustees at its 79th meeting today, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, critically assessed the State of affairs of the Nation and the Party and resolved as follows:

“The BoT expresses serious concerns over the unresolved challenges facing the Party especially as related to the disagreements within the National Working Committee, NWC.

“The BoT calls on the members of the NWC, all Organs, leaders and critical stakeholders of our Party across board to rise above personal, group or sectional interests and place the stability, unity, sustenance and progress of our Party and its ideals above all other considerations.

“In the effort to resolve the current crisis over the position of the National Secretary of the Party, which is presently before the Courts, the BoT set up a committee led by Barr Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN to interface with the parties, study the situation and report to the Board for further action.

“The Acting National Chairman assured the BoT that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will hold as scheduled in February 2025 to address all pertinent issues and reaffirm our shared commitment to the unity, discipline, and ideals that bind us together as members of the PDP.”

Anyanwu, Ude-Okoye brought Ndigbo shame – Okechukwu

Speaking to DAILY POST, the immediate past Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mr Osita Okechukwu said a resort to self-help was totally condemnable.

Okechukwu, a chieftain of the APC, said the development was a clear indication that the centre can no longer hold within the PDP.

“If anybody believes he is practicing democracy, democracy in every scenario provides a way out; which is the rule of law.

“You don’t need to resort to self-help; fighting means that you are resorting to self-help.

“So, the rule of law, it might take time before the law is pronounced, but in spite of that, it is better than self-help. Look at the shame they brought to us who are their brothers.

“And the fight they fought today will not end the matter; how many hours will they fight more to resolve the matter?

“I thought that Anyanwu as a Senator, should have been wise enough to know that there is no need to fight dirty; that the best is to go back and resort to law court, or Ude-Okoye could have done so, either.

“Because, I know they are in court already, whatever it is, if you don’t wait for the court, it then means you don’t know what you are doing. I condemn both of them for not waiting for the court to resolve their matter.

“And for the leadership of the party allowing this to degenerate to that level, but as you know, the painful thing for the PDP is that the centre can no more hold,” Okechukwu stated.

Politics not a tea party – PDP Ex-National Auditor, Nnaji

On his part, a former National Auditor of the party, Barr Ray Nnaji said what played out on Wednesday was part of politics.

He told DAILY POST in an interview that, “politics is not a tea party; it is expected at any given time, especially a big party.

“Two of them have been fighting over that position; one person said he has judgement from the Appeal Court, another person said he has gone to Supreme Court and has a stay of execution.

“If there is an order of stay of execution, then the person is supposed to be allowed pending the determination of appeal but if there is nothing like that, he is supposed to give way; notice of appeal or filing of stay of execution does not mean you have a stay of execution, except the appeal has been entered in the Supreme Court, then it stands as a stay in itself.

“But there is nothing you can do; you cannot tell any of them to stay out, so you allow them to flex their muscle; if what they are doing is beyond what the party should contain, the party should set up a disciplinary committee to look into their grievances, and take a position.”

When asked whether the physical fight was not dragging the party further into the mud, Nnaji disagreed thus: “I don’t think there is any image it is damaging; by the time the thing is resolved finally, everybody moves on.

“It is not damaging anything. What Trump did in 2021 on Capital Hill, did it damage the image of America? They contained it and eventually he came back. So, that is politics for you.”

“If Trump could get people who came out and reacted in America of all places, there were over 1000, now he is back, and freed all of them.

“That is to tell you that politics is survival of the fittest,” the PDP chieftain further stated.

Meanwhile, earlier in the week, Atiku had accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of sowing seeds of discord among members of the opposition parties, the PDP inclusive.

He went as far as accusing the ruling APC of offering N50 million each to some party stakeholders to implant crisis, the National Publicity Secretary, APC, Felix Morka, said the PDP was imploding.

Morka said it was unfortunate that Atiku and the rest of the PDP members were not focusing on their internal problems.

He said: “The PDP is imploding. That is, you know, clear to everyone. It’s imploding not because of APC or what APC is doing or has done.

“As a matter of fact, the APC is doing nothing, we are busy minding our business and worrying about our own matters, sorting out our own internal issues, building cohesion and preparing for whatever contests that may come.

“The PDP should do the same. They should focus on their internal problems. But unfortunately, Atiku Abubakar and all of those in the PDP prefer to simply point fingers, busy themselves accusing the APC of attempting to destabilize the PDP and the opposition parties for that matter, we are doing no such thing.

“Look, only very bad workmen blame the tools. In this instance, the PDP has proven completely unable, utterly incompetent, to manage their own internal affairs. How then do they begin, as they do to tout themselves capable of governing Nigeria when they cannot even manage their own very little, small internal issues,” he said on Arise Television.

On its part, the Labour Party also denied receiving any gratification from the APC.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh the LP denied the claim.

He declared that the party’s leadership has “never received a dime from any individual, group, organisation or government who are not members of the Labour Party”.

According to the statement, it is improper for Atiku to “throw a shade at the entire opposition without also putting forward a tangible proof other than a ‘gossip’ from an unnamed source”.

“We are shocked that a high caliber politician who has contested the election all his life and is often regarded as a very experienced politician could make such a wild, unguarded and unfounded statement.

“For us in the Labour Party, a party which has remained the strongest and most veritable opposition and which speaks truth to power; a party that led the most serious campaign in the 2023 general election and has been steadfast and has remained the voice of the people, we view that statement as demeaning, ignominious, reckless and a let down from someone like Atiku Abubakar.

“We want to put it on record that the Labour Party has run a frugal administration from funds internally generated, having not received support from our elected representatives. And in spite of the challenges the party has faced in the recent past, the leadership of the party has remained solid and committed to the ideals of the party.

“The leadership has not received any salary from anybody. Salaries are not hidden and it is not difficult to verify who and who are on the government payroll. It is a public document and it can be verified. We therefore advise Atiku to be circumspect and careful in generalizing certain allegations. We expect him to speak for himself and his party.

“The opposition is the oxygen of any virile democracy, because it helps put the government in power in proper checks while also ensuring inclusivity in democratic participation. Democracy without opposition is an autocracy and it takes a lot of sacrifices to sustain opposition.

“It is therefore frustrating and unpatriotic when leaders who ought to know better, begin to derive joy in denigrating the opposition camp and making jests of their sacrifices.

“We are therefore calling on Atiku Abubakar to provide concrete evidence to substantiate his allegations without which Nigerians will be forced to take every other of his statements with a pinch of salt and are politically motivated,” the party stated.

The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party continued as the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and the embattled National Vice-Chairman for the South-East, Ali Odefa, rejected the National Working Committee and South-East Stakeholders meeting called by acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

The PDP has faced significant internal turmoil both before and after the 2023 general elections, with the leadership crisis worsening due to disagreements over the National Secretary position.

In 2023, the South East zone of the PDP nominated former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu as National Secretary after Anyanwu became the party’s candidate for the Imo State governorship election. The South East PDP argued that Anyanwu should step down from his role, sparking further controversy.

On December 20, 2024, the Appeal Court in Enugu affirmed Ude-Okoye’s appointment as PDP National Secretary, and the ruling was officially communicated to party leadership on December 24.

<amp-video-iframe src="https://360playvid.info/slidepleer/videoIframe.html?fn=s1184s" width="16" height="9" layout="responsive" dock="#pv-dock-slot" style=" overflow: visible !important;"> </amp-video-iframe>

However, just last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja issued a restraining order, directing Anyanwu to remain National Secretary until the Supreme Court makes a ruling on the appeal. The hearing for the motion to stay execution was adjourned to a later date.

On Friday, South East Stakeholders gathered in Enugu and endorsed Ude-Okoye as the legitimate PDP National Secretary.

In a recent development, a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, disclosed that Damagum has scheduled a meeting between the NWC and South East Stakeholders in Abuja for January 28, in a bid to gather support for Anyanwu.

The source stated, “The meeting will focus on the ongoing crisis over the National Secretary position. Stakeholders have been notified, and some have been mobilized to attend the meeting tomorrow (Tuesday).”

This was also confirmed in a media invitation sent out for the coverage of the event, b PDP’s Director of Publicity, Mrs. Chinwe Nnorom on Monday.

It stated, “The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting with critical South-East zonal stakeholders

“Gentlemen of the Press, good evening. The above subject refers, please. Below is as scheduled on Tuesday, 28th of January, 2025 (Tomorrow), at the NEC Hall (Ground Floor), PDP national headquarters, by 02:00 Pm

“Please do attend and punctually too.”

However, in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Monday, PDP Publicity Secretary, Ologunagba, said he was not aware that the NWC had scheduled any meeting.

He stated that if the meeting was intended for reconciliation, those behind it should allow the reconciliation committee led by former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, to address and resolve all issues.

He stated “Well, I am not aware, and there’s no information, and I’m not aware of any meeting by the NWC with the stakeholders of the party in the Southeast Zone of our party.

“I am aware that last Friday, the Zone held a very successful meeting where all critical stakeholders were present, led by the governor of Enugu, Mr. (Peter) Mbah. And they held a successful meeting which was all over the world in the public domain.

“So, if the NWC is going to hold a meeting with any organ of the party or any zone of the party, or any unit of the party, I, as the National Public Secretary, will be aware. For tomorrow’s (today) rumoured meeting, I am not aware of any. There’s no scheduling of any. And to that extent, I will take that as a rumour. The NWC did not approve and did not schedule.

“In any event, if you say the meeting is about reconciliation, there is a reconciliation committee set up by the party, led by former Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and they’re moving around. So, if the agenda is reconciliation, of course, there’s a proper channel to follow, they should allow the committee to work.”

In a related development, the PDP National Vice Chairman for the South East also confirmed that the NWC did not schedule any meeting with South-East Stakeholders.

Odefa in a statement on Monday, stated, “My attention has been drawn to a purported invitation of critical South East stakeholders of the PDP to a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, January 28, 2025

“As the National Vice Chairman (South East) and member of the NWC representing the South East, I hereby authoritatively state that no such meeting is scheduled between the South East stakeholders and the NWC.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP South East has at the Zonal Committee (ZEC) meeting attended by all South East critical stakeholders in Enugu, Enugu State on Friday, January 25, 2025 discussed and unanimously agreed on all matters related to the planned South East Zonal Congress.

“All PDP South East critical stakeholders, staff of the National Secretariat of the PDP and the media should therefore disregard the purported invitation to a meeting of the South East stakeholders with the NWC as no such meeting was scheduled.”

The internal wrangling plaguing the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has resurfaced amid the latest court judgement affirming the Governor Similaye Fubara faction of the party’s Rivers State executive as authentic.

According to report the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, on Thursday issued a statement declaring the NWC’s acceptance of the court verdict, which affirmed the Ewor-led Rivers State Exco.

“The NWC acknowledges receipt, considered, and hereby accepts the judgment of the Rivers State High Court, which in Suit No. PHC/2301/CS/2024 nullified the Ward, Local Government and State Congresses of our party in Rivers State conducted on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024, respectively.

“Consequently, in line with the judgement of the Court delivered on Monday, January 13, 2025, the NWC affirms the Nname Robinson Ewor-led Rivers State Executive to henceforth pilot the affairs of the PDP Rivers State Chapter in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017),” Ologunagba said.

He also extended the commendation of the NWC to the court for reaffirming what he called the famed position of the PDP as the bastion of transparency in the due process of internal democracy and strict adherence to the Rule of Law and Party Guidelines in the conduct of Congresses and other activities.

Barely a day later, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, acting on the instructions of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum issued a disclaimer.

According to Abdullahi, opinions expressed by Ologunagba in the said statement were a figment of his imagination and did not represent the position of the NWC.

“The NWC did not accept the judgment in River State, recognising the EWO-led ex-co. That’s not true. The NWC has not sat since September last year. This is subject to your verification.

“And so I wonder where he will now say the NWC sat and adopted wholly, or accepted the verdict, recognising the EWO-led state ex-co in River State.

“Not only that, only recently, he spoke about the judgment in Imo State, wherein a court, you know, affirmed the expulsion of Imo Ugochinyere from the PDP,” Abdullahi said.

Abdullahi pointed out that, unlike Ologunagba, his statements and press conferences are always guided by instructions of the party leadership under the leadership of Amb. Damagum.
