The initiative is a daring attempt to advance an ambitious scheme that would guarantee the state’s 24-hour electrical supply in order to spur industrialization.

Mr. Sunny Ekedayen, the State Commissioner for Economic Planning, presented the Oborevwori administration’s strategic plan to reposition the state as a center of industrial growth powered by reliable electricity.

These stances resulted from a strategic meeting that Governor Oborevwori had with representatives of Nigeria Infrastructure Bank (NIB), Power Acumen Consulting Ltd. (PACL), and Detail Solictors on Wednesday at Government House in Asaba.

Governor Oborevwori “approved the engagement of Power Acumen Consulting Limited to undertake a comprehensive diagnostic assessment of Delta’s electricity ecosystem,” according to information released by Ekedayen.

He clarified that this is the result of the consultants’ thorough fieldwork since late 2025, which involved interacting with stakeholders and analyzing institutional and infrastructure deficiencies along the power value chain.

He said that the firm’s interim assessment, which suggested a comprehensive revision of the state’s electrical laws and policy framework, was a sign of structural flaws that were deeply ingrained and that the government was now ready to rectify.

In the upcoming weeks, a thorough and practical roadmap will be provided, according to Ekedayen. The creation of a State Electricity Commission to oversee and manage the developing power industry would be a crucial reform element.

“Deltans will start to see quantifiable improvements in the supply of electricity in the near future.”

In a similar vein, Mr. Michael Anoka, the Commissioner for Energy, provided additional insight into the initiative’s operational framework, characterizing it as a “bold and transformative program” intended to unleash Delta’s industrial potential.

Anoka clarified that the state would make the most of its current power producing capability, especially from Okpai and Ughelli, where sizable amounts of electricity are still underutilized.

“Our priority is not generation, but efficient transmission and distribution,” he stated, adding that the administration intends to expand the project throughout the state after achieving 24-hour electricity supply in Asaba and Warri over the next 12 months.

He also revealed plans to create an independent State electrical grid and continued cooperation with Power Acumen Consulting and Benin electrical Distribution Company to fortify distribution networks.

He clarified that this was an unprecedented action that was anticipated to maximize electricity delivery from several generation sources, such as Sapele, Okpai, and Transcorp Ughelli.

Anoka emphasized that the project goes beyond power delivery to act as a catalyst for economic change, employment creation, and investment inflow, describing electricity as the foundation of industrialization.

Speaking as well, Mr. Fidelis Tilije, Commissioner for Finance, emphasized that finance would not be an issue and reiterated the state government’s steadfast financial willingness to support every stage of the effort.

He emphasized the critical role that a steady power supply plays as a foundation for industrialization and stated that the administration is still fully committed to providing the financial support required to guarantee the project’s successful completion.

Erhabor Okogun, Managing Director of Infrastructure Bank Plc, stated that Delta has the financial and resource foundation necessary to propel extensive infrastructure development, supporting the state’s vision from a funding standpoint.

Engineer Matthew Edevbie of Power Acumen Consulting Ltd. (PACL), who offered additional technical insight during the briefing, emphasized the importance of electricity to sustainable growth and referred to it as the “lifeblood” of every successful economy.

Drawing on more than 20 years of expertise in the business, he pointed out that no significant industrialization can take place without dependable power, emphasizing that in order to achieve inclusive and long-lasting growth, true economic advancement must be purposefully coordinated with social justice and environmental sustainability.

In order to establish a strong foundation for long-term success and establish Delta State as a model for power-driven industrialization in Nigeria, he promised that Power Acumen Consulting Limited, as technical partners, would guarantee careful planning, execution, and monitoring of all project phases, especially the crucial twelve-month rollout period.

He clarified that his government no longer struggles to pay salaries or carry out projects because his state has gotten an increase in revenue allocation.

This was said by the governor following Friday night’s APC convention in Eagle Square, Abuja.

He clarified that the necessity to connect Delta State with the federal government, which he claimed has improved access to resources and governance outcomes, was what motivated him to defect to the ruling party.

“I’m glad to be here today,” he remarked. Today, the audacious choice we made on April 28, 2025, is coming to pass. After the 2023 election, I became the first governor to join the APC. We did that in order to establish a connection with the center, which we have already done. My action has been imitated by other state governors as well.

“We are pleased with the choice we made because Mr. President’s programs and initiatives are effective. We are aware of Nigerians’ hardship, and policies are gradually changing.

As you are aware, there wasn’t much money going into the states earlier, and it was challenging to pay salaries. We are able to pay our contractors and salaries these days. For us, a lot of things are working.

“I can assure you that my fellow governors will not go if Mr. President is not doing well. There are currently 31 APC governors. Since 1999, no political party has won 31 governors. It’s the first time.

“The number of people present today demonstrates that Mr. President is brave, focused, and leading us in the right direction. We think Nigerians will repay him by electing him again in 2027.

He then advised governors to use the increased cash to fund visible projects and improve citizens’ quality of life.

He says there’s no reason to keep Nigerians in the dark about their financial situation.

“More money is coming to the states,” he stated. I will not conceal it as a governor. Money is present. Utilize the funds as our state does. Use it in your state to make the populace very happy.

“Somewhere is the source of the funds. There are others who wish to conceal the fact that money exists.

The governor emphasized that state governments now have the resources to promote development and boost public trust in governance, maintaining that FAAC payouts have much improved.

He characterized the project as a significant infrastructural change that would improve economic activity along the Ughelli axis and other corridors and reduce traffic congestion. Otovwodo Junction is one of the busiest traffic corridors in Delta State since it is a vital gateway connecting Warri, Asaba, and Patani along the East-West highway.

According to the governor, the project is in line with his administration’s goal of redefining the social compact by delivering infrastructure in an accountable and people-centered manner.

When the flyover is finished, he said, it will increase trade, shorten travel times, and increase commuter safety.

The Delta State All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected a call by Francis Waive, a member of the House of Representatives, for the party to adopt Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election,

Waive’s recent statement called on the party to adopt Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as a sole candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.

However, the party, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, distanced itself from Waive’s remarks, stressing that his position was strictly personal and did not reflect the stance of Delta APC.

It assured members and the public that the party’s candidate for the next election would emerge through a transparent and competitive process, reflecting the people’s aspirations for real change.

“We wish to state unequivocally that Waive’s position is purely his personal opinion and does not reflect the stance of Delta APC, its leadership, or the generality of its members,” the statement read.

The party criticized Governor Oborevwori’s administration, describing it as a “monumental disappointment” and accusing it of financial recklessness and a lack of developmental progress.

“Despite receiving over ₦2 trillion in federal allocations, the Oborevwori administration has failed to deliver any meaningful infrastructural, economic or social advancements for the people of Delta State”

Reaffirming its commitment to unseating the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the APC emphasized that it has “an array of eminently qualified and capable individuals who will offer Deltans a viable and credible alternative in 2027.

The leadership of the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has condemned in strong terms the continued neglect of key infrastructural projects that are vital for the development of Delta Ijaw communities under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

APC, in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, expressed its support for the agitations by the Ijaw Youth Council.

“It is unacceptable that in this day and age, our communities are left to grapple with such infrastructural deficits while the state government remains indifferent to their plight,” the party noted.

According to APC: “Despite the purported establishment of the Directorate of Riverine Development, it is becoming increasingly evident that the Ijaw communities, which have long contributed to the socio-economic fabric of the state, are being systematically sidelined in the execution of key infrastructure projects by Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.”

The party noted that key projects such as the Ayakoromo Bridge, Burutu Marine Polytechnic, and critical road projects in Ogulagha/Odimodi, Ohoroh/Bomadi, Torugbene/Ojobo, and Erhowa/Abari remain abandoned despite repeated calls for action.

“The failure of Oborevwori’s administration to upgrade the Isena-Ibe Teachers Training College, Bomadi, to either a polytechnic or university, is a stark reminder of the administration’s disregard for education and skill acquisition in riverine areas.

“Regrettably, the deplorable conditions of the roads in Ogulagha/Odimodi, Ohoroh/Bomadi, Torugbene/Ojobo, and Erhowa/Abari are a testament to the administration’s negligence. These roads are not only essential for the economic survival of these communities but also for the safety and well-being of the people,” APC further noted.

The opposition party urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to immediately prioritise the completion and funding of these critical projects.

“Delta Ijaw communities deserve better than the broken promises and abandoned plans that have been the hallmark of this administration.

“It is time for Governor Oborevwori to stop paying lip service to the development of riverine communities and take meaningful action to improve the lives of its people, particularly ensuring that the Directorate of Riverine Development is not just a token gesture created for the purpose of settling loyalists with appointments but a catalyst for sustainable development in our riverine areas.

“Delta APC stands firmly with the Ijaw Youth Council and other stakeholders in our riverine communities in their call for Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration to deliver on its promises and provide the infrastructure that will drive real development in the state. It is time for action, not cheap political rhetoric. Delta Ijaw and other riverine communities deserve better,” APC stated.

The Senator representing Delta North in the Senate, Ned Nwoko, has warned Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State not to contemplate joining him in his new party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwoko said this shortly after he was officially received into the APC by the Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

The lawmaker declared that he would not welcome the governor if he eventually chose to join the APC as being rumoured, saying Oborevwori was not his match anywhere.

“My first concern in leaving PDP is to make sure that there’s enough time for me to get some things done through federal government. I’m tired of being in Delta and almost like in opposition, because I tell them what to do, they don’t want to do it, I keep telling them.

“Sheriff, is not a match for me anywhere. And so he became a governor by default. And suddenly, he doesn’t respect me anymore.

“No, I will not welcome him. How? Why? I have just told you that he doesn’t have the capacity to be a governor where we are. He has not delivered to my expectations.

“We have projects that I told him that are needed to be done for the people which he refused to do,” he said.

Nwoko said he would unite APC and bring peace to the party in Delta State as well as deliver the South-South State to the ruling party in the next general election.

Speaking while receiving the Delta North Senator, the APC national chairman Ganduje asked Nwoko to work with other stakeholders in the interest of the party.

“What we are looking forward to is a highly organised party structure in that state, composed of men and women, especially young men who will go from house to house to show that APC dominates almost everywhere.

“You are most welcomed, Distinguished Senator to our great party. There’s no doubt our great party is the most nationalistic party, the party that has spread from all over the country.

“Our party believes in national integration. Our party believes in national unity. Our party believes in progress and providing prosperity to the people of Nigeria,” Ganduje stated.

Charles Aniagwu, the Delta State Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads, and Public Information, said on Friday that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has no intention of defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Aniagwu stated that Oborevwori is a “poster governor” of the PDP, and any speculation about him joining the APC is merely wishful thinking by detractors.

According to Aniagwu: “When you go to the hospital as a patient, doctors bring out equipment to test you and diagnose any issues. I wish we could set up a political lab to test the political temperature of those of us in Delta. You would see that the PDP runs profoundly and heavily in our bloodstream.

“That explains why those spreading rumours about Oborevwori wanting to move to the APC are simply hoping he would join their ranks.

“Oborevwori is not only a proud member of the PDP and a leader of the party both in Delta and Nigeria, but he is also a performing governor who can rightly be regarded as a ‘poster governor’ for the PDP.

“To those wishing he is jumping ship, we want to make it clear that Oborevwori is not in the business of defection.

“He is demonstrating that the PDP has the capacity to deliver while continuing to cooperate with the President of Nigeria, because at this moment, President Tinubu has no opponent in office.

“When he declared his support for the President, it was a patriotic move aimed at fostering good governance, not an attempt to look for another political platform.

“He remains firmly in the PDP and has no intention of leaving. For us in the PDP, he is a symbol of what the party stands for.

“Politics is often like a concentric circle of conspiracy, with various actors collaborating for power. It’s true that we have some internal disagreements, but that’s to be expected in a party that performed well during its 16 years in power.

“For those predicting the extinction of the PDP, I believe that’s the height of a malaria-induced dream.”

The Delta State government has reiterated that its support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not for politics but for good governance and patriotism.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Mr Charles Aniagwu, said Monday that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was not interested in fighting any political battles; thus, he asked his kinsmen and Deltans to support the President.

Aniagwu, who was recently directed to oversee the State Information Ministry, spoke specifically on the situation at a press briefing in Asaba, the state capital.

While saying it is the height of patriotism to support the federal a, he said the President today has no opponent and that it would be abnormal to practice blind politics.

“The Governor was very clear when he noted that the support for Tinubu is also equal to support for him, that it is not politicking; that is governance because the times we are in now are not for politics but governance.”

The Commissioner said the Governor would continue to reply to critics with massive project delivery ahead of 2027. ”

We want the President to perform well so that the breeze of development can get to us in Delta state.”

“Governor Oborevwori was not interested in any political fight but was primed to respond to critics by delivering many more viable projects. At the moment, his business is governance, and he will not lose sight of it.

“We have seen a lot of publications in different places, including those insinuating that he is leaving the PDP. Oborevwori is a very proud member of the Peoples Democratic Party. Today, Oborevwori is a clear leader amongst leaders of the party in Nigeria, and he is not hungry to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party.”

Aniagwu remarked that Governor Oborevwori had kept faith with the continuation and completion of inherited projects while initiating new ones.

“Having continued with the numerous projects he inherited, he is advancing the state by completing ongoing roads and initiating more projects.

He believes that every Deltan deserves the dividend of democracy and has been concerned about that.

On fiscal discipline and efficient resource allocation, Aniagwu said, “Over N200 billion has been paid to liquidate the state’s debt stock while contractors are being mobilised with new jobs, with outstanding job certificates paid as they fall due.”
