Balarabe Rufai, the party’s National Youth Leader, posted this on 𝕏 on Monday, along with flyers for “Operation Occupy INEC.”

He said that the Lagos protest would start at 8 a.m. at Yaba College of Technology and the Ogun protest would start at 11 a.m. at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited office in Abeokuta.

At the time this report was written, it was not clear if the protest had started at the INEC office in Lagos.

Rufai said that the protests were meant to demand accountability and respect for the law.

He said, “The Lagos ADC Youth Wing has taken a strong and peaceful stand by taking over INEC to send a clear message: the law must be followed, due process must be followed, Amupitan must step down right away, and the leadership led by Senator David Mark must be restored right away.

“This is a call for responsibility, not disorder.”

The youth leader made it clear that the protest was a reaction to what they saw as unfairness.

“When institutions don’t act fairly, it’s the duty of citizens to respond with courage and clarity. “The demand is simple: restore integrity or step aside,” Rufai said.

The planned protests come after a protest in Abuja on April 8 by important opposition leaders, such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ADC National Chairman David Mark, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.

Peter Obi, Rauf Aregbesola, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Dino Melaye were also at the protest in Abuja.

The protests are connected to INEC’s decision on April 1 to stop recognizing factions within the ADC. This came after a Court of Appeal ruling told the parties to keep things the way they are in the leadership dispute.

People who support the ADC have accused the election body of being biased and are calling for the resignation of Joash Amupitan, the chairman of INEC.

At the January Media Parliament and Guest Forum, which was hosted by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council, Akinleye made this statement on Thursday while answering questions from reporters.

He claims that 359 of the cases, or 31.44 percent, are still pending, demonstrating the commission’s continued dedication to providing efficient services.

He revealed that, as of September 2024, he had inherited 520 complaints, of which 343 had been settled and 177 were still outstanding.

Akinleye clarified that the commission’s main duty is to hear public complaints against any public or private organization, and he promised that the issues will be looked into in order to find a cooperative solution.

“520 complaints were inherited as of September 2024, when I assumed office,” he stated. Of these, 177 complaints (34.04%) were still ongoing while 343 complaints (65.96%) were addressed.

The Ogun State Office received 622 new complaints between September 2024 and December 2025. Of these, 440 complaints (70.74%) were successfully addressed, leaving 182 complaints (29.26%) pending.

Between September 2024 and December 2025, the Ogun State Office processed 1,142 complaints. The Commission’s dedication to efficient service delivery is demonstrated by the 783 cases (68.56%) that were settled and the 359 cases (31.44%) that are currently pending.

The federal commissioner emphasized the effective cooperation and support received from various government agencies and media outlets, noting that these partnerships have contributed to the state’s accomplishments under his leadership, while maintaining that it has the full authority to investigate any government agency and report any misbehaving organization to the federal government.

In the meantime, Akinleye encouraged the public to voice their grievances through any of the agency’s five locations or its social media accounts, claiming that the commission works for the people, responds to their concerns, and provides free services.

The NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, welcomed the commissioner to the forum earlier in his speech and explained that it is a venue for educating and informing the public about the agency’s operations and how they may benefit from them.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the two state governments expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as tragic and painful. They prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and for strength for their families to bear the loss.

The statement was signed by Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, and Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Ogun State Government.

According to the statement, Joshua was discharged from hospital late in the afternoon after doctors confirmed he was clinically fit to continue his recovery from home. It added that the boxer was “heavily hearted and full of emotions” over the loss of his two close friends.

The release further disclosed that Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited a funeral home in Lagos earlier in the day to pay their last respects to the deceased, whose remains were being prepared for repatriation later that evening.

Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State also appreciated the outpouring of public concern, sympathy and support following the incident.

The governors equally expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what they described as his “fatherly support” throughout the period following the accident.

The statement also commended the medical team at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism and quality of care in treating Joshua and others who sustained injuries in the crash.

Atobatele cited internal crises, leadership disputes, and a lack of clear direction within the party both at national and state levels as part of the reasons for his defection.
Reading his correspondence on Tuesday during the plenary, the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, disclosed that the lawmaker stated

that his decision was guided by the interest of his constituents.
“As the representative of Abeokuta South Constituency One, my priority is to ensure my constituents benefit from a stable and progressive political platform”, Atobatele said insisting that his decision to join the APC would allow him to collaborate more effectively with the government and advance the development agenda of his constituency.

Responding, the Speaker of the House hoped and prayed that the lawmaker’s stay in his new political party would justify the reasons for his decision; and reiterating that members of the Assembly, irrespective of party affiliation, remained one united legislative family committed to working in harmony.
In another development, the Assembly commiserated with the victims of a fatal road accident involving British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, which occurred along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway at Makun junction, resulting in the death of two others including his cousin and a friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
The Assembly’s expression of sympathy followed the presentation of the members representing Sagamu two and one State Constituencies respectively, Honourables Ademola Adeniran and Damilare Bello, who raised the issue under personal explanation.

The Assembly observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased; while expressing condolence to the bereaved families, and wished the injured boxer, and other survivors a speedy recovery.
The Speaker also enjoined motorists to exercise caution on highways to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
Also at the plenary, Elemide commended his co-lawmakers for the spirit of unity and cooperation that characterised legislative activities throughout the year and appreciated the management and staff of the State House of Assembly for their patience, solidarity and support.

Preliminary assessments by the corps’ crash observatory have, however, identified excessive speed as a major contributing factor.

The accident occurred around 12 noon near the Sinoma axis of Sagamu, Ogun State. It involved a black Lexus SUV and a stationary red Sinotruck.

According to the FRSC, five adult males were involved in the crash. Two of them, identified as Joshua’s friends, died instantly. One person sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Joshua reportedly survived the crash with minor injuries.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide said the corps had conducted an initial professional assessment at the scene. He stressed, however, that only a full technical report would determine the final cause of the crash.

He explained that officers from the crash observatory, comprising experienced safety experts, examined the crash site shortly after the incident and drew preliminary conclusions based on impact analysis and road configuration.

“When you look at the impact of that crash, definitely you know that whoever must have been operating under the speed limit as put in place by the Federal Government wouldn’t have had such an impact,” he said.

Ogungbemide noted that the truck involved in the crash was parked on the shoulder of the road and was not reported to have broken down at the location.

“The information reaching us is that it is not that the vehicle broke down there. Maybe the man parked there, which was on the shoulder of the road,” he said.

According to him, although no speed-measuring device was actively recording data at the exact point of the crash, trained officers could infer likely speed from the level of damage and the force of impact.

“At that moment, there was no technical equipment to actually confirm the speed at which the vehicle was going.

“But when you look at the impact of a crash, you should be able to know at what speed that vehicle is likely to be moving,” the spokesperson explained.

He added that the maximum speed limit on highways is 100 kilometres per hour, noting that crashes occurring within that limit are less likely to result in severe consequences.

“The push and the impact involving that jeep and the parked truck give you a better guess, pending the technical investigation we are looking at,” Ogungbemide said.

The FRSC spokesperson also addressed concerns about emergency response, stating that patrol teams arrived at the scene within three minutes of the crash.

Ogungbemide said, “The response time was three minutes,” adding, “That corridor where this crash occurred, we have more than five emergency ambulance points.”

On Joshua’s condition, Ogungbemide said the boxer was responsive at the scene and received prompt assistance.

He confirmed that the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, had directed that the technical investigation be concluded and the findings communicated to the public.

“The moment they conclude, they will reach out to members of the public,” he said.

The passage followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation by its Chairman, Musefiu Lamidi, who subsequently moved the motion for its adoption.
The motion was seconded by Folawewo Salami and supported by the entire House through a voice vote during plenary presided over by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The bill was later read and adopted clause by clause before the Committee of the Whole House. The motion for its third reading was then moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, and supported unanimously by all lawmakers through a voice vote.
The Clerk and Head of the Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, subsequently took the third reading of the bill before the State lawmakers, after which the Speaker directed that the clean copy of the bill be transmitted to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his assent.

Earlier, while presenting the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation’s report on the bill titled “H.B. No. 028/OG/2025 – Year 2026 Appropriation Bill”, Lamidi explained that the Assembly had adjusted the budget proposals of three MDAs, leading to a slight upward revision of the Internally Generated Revenue by N2.193bn.
The same figure was deducted from the capital receipt, thereby retaining the total actual budget expenditure of N1.668 trillion initially presented to the Assembly by the governor.
In a related development, the House also passed the 2025 Revised Appropriation Bill and the Revised Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF, for 2026–2028.

The Ogun State Muslim Council says it has concluded plans to engage political parties, aspirants, electoral bodies, and civil society organisations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Alhaji Kamal’deen Akintunde, Secretary-General of the Council, made this known in a communique issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
Akintunde said the decision formed part of the resolutions reached at the Council’s general meeting, held on Sunday.

He emphasised the importance of engaging election stakeholders on ways to build a better society, before and after the general elections.
The secretary-general further stated that the council plans to collaborate closely with the League of Imams and Alfas to achieve this objective.
According to him, the meeting enjoined all Muslim faithful to participate fully in the forthcoming continuous voters’ registration exercise.

He advised officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct themselves with fairness and integrity and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to the welfare and rights of Muslims in the state.
“The council also endorsed the bill before the National Assembly, aimed at increasing women’s participation in politics, a step to enable women to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“In the area of education, the council appealed to Imams and heads of Qur’anic schools to integrate vocational training and formal subjects into their curriculum.

“They are to support initiatives aimed at addressing the challenge of out-of-school children in Ogun State.
“The meeting further ratified the commencement of the process to appoint a new President-General of the council,” he said.
