The group claimed that the governor’s remarks had sowed discord and animosity, citing his prior critiques of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s policies.

The caucus chairman and senator for Bauchi North, Sama’ila Dahuwa, stated that the group had unanimously rejected Mohammed’s proposed admittance to the APC on Tuesday night following a meeting in Abuja.

“After thorough discussions, the caucus categorically rejects the move,” he declared.

The caucus voiced alarm over Mohammed’s persistent public criticism of President Tinubu and the APC, including remarks that were seen to compromise the party’s integrity and unity.

He hasn’t taken back these remarks or made any official attempts to make amends with the party’s leadership and members as of yet. To our knowledge, he has not made a public apology.

The group declared, “In light of the aforementioned, the caucus firmly holds that his admission into APC at this time will be detrimental to the party’s cohesion, credibility, and electoral prospects in Bauchi State.”

The caucus also stated that it will oppose any action that could jeopardize the stability and prosperity of the party.

Additionally, it criticized the Bauchi APC for allegedly failing to contact important stakeholders on the issue, claiming that this was incompatible with inclusivity and internal democracy.

The caucus stated that it would formally inform the party’s national leadership of its stance and insist on rigorous adherence to established procedures and due process.

Before stepping down to run in the 2023 election on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket, Senator Dahuwa, who represents Bauchi North, was Governor Bala Mohammed’s Commissioner for Health.

Citing internal PDP problems, he later moved to the APC at the beginning of the year.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly courted Governor Bala Mohammed to join them before to his impending departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

El-Rufai reportedly gave a speech at the 23rd Daily Trust Dialogue in Abuja, which had as its theme “Nigeria’s Fourth Republic: What is Working and What is Not?”

He claims that Nigeria suffers from unaccountable governance, pointing out that changes have prioritized procedures above results.

Without accountability, we have governance. Nigeria has developed accountability and change more quickly than in terms of content, he claimed.

“We hold elections, establish agencies, and declare asset recoveries, but accountability by simply governing remains selective,” he continued. Corruption is now invisible to those in positions of power, negotiable for those who are on the fence and wish to switch to the APC, and dangerous for others who are in opposition. Members of the APC are never charged with corruption.

The former governor cautioned that ordinary Nigerians would suffer greatly from unequal enforcement of the law.

“This is not abstract; it appears in unpaid salaries, abandoned projects, decayed infrastructure and widespread cynicism. Deterrence breaks down when laws are applied inconsistently. And when deterrence collapses, trust evaporates; and this is what is happening in Nigeria,” he said.

El-Rufai stressed the need to strengthen institutions, particularly through judicial reforms, to guarantee credible elections and an independent electoral commission.

“Finally, we must restore ethical and competent government for our politics to have meaning. Reform is not only about what must change, but it is also about what must stop,” he added.

Other panellists at the event included the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy Communication, Sunday Dare, and Hon. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the 7th and 8th House of Representatives.

The dialogue was chaired by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, while Rashidi Ladoja was the Special Guest of Honour.

Kwankwaso said that although they are looking for a party to merge with ahead of the 2027 general election, such a party must be willing to surrender its presidential or vice-presidential ticket to him.
There is speculation that the former Minister of Defence is currently under pressure to join the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

ADC already has the likes of former Vice President Alhaji Aliko Dangote, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi, among others, who have declared interest in running for the presidency.
Kwankwaso is also said to be being lured by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join and work for the return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

However, addressing his supporters on Saturday, Kwankwaso said that he would only join a party willing to hand him the presidential or vice-presidential ticket.
“We are looking for a party, but they must agree to give me, Rabiu Kwankwaso, a presidential or vice-presidential ticket,” he said in Kano.
Kwankwaso came a distant third in the 2023 presidential election, far behind President Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi.

Despite the reported defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Dr Felix Choji, maintains the governor remained a member and leader of the PDP in the state.

Recall that on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda had announced Mutfwang’s defection during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
But despite the announcement, Choji still believes that the governor is a member of the PDP, as there has been no official correspondence from the governor indicating that he is leaving the party.

Choji who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, December 31, stated that despite plans by the APC to formally receive the governor into the party on January 20, 2026, he remains a PDP even as he has not informed his supporters at his ward, local government, and zonal levels, of his official defection.
“The truth of the matter is that as a party in the Plateau, we are yet to receive any correspondence from him (Governor) or through any of the proxies of his intention to leave the PDP. As of today, the governor still remains a valid member and leader of the PDP in Plateau State,” Choji said in the statement.

“He is the leader of the party as we speak; we have not received any letter or correspondence that he is leaving our party. So, as far as we are concerned, a train cannot move without its head; he is the leader, and the party is waiting for his pronouncement.
“In politics, your membership emanates from your ward. We have not received anything from his ward or from the local government he hails from or from his zone, so we have not received any letter or communication to that effect from these three organs. We have done our checks, and there’s nothing of that nature.”

Otti made this declaration on Tuesday during his monthly media briefing in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, saying he had decided to remain in the Labour Party to help rebuild and reposition it.
He revealed that Obi had personally informed him of his intention to exit the party and that he had no objection to the decision, but emphasised that his own political path would be different.

“If you remember, I joined the Labour Party before Peter Obi, so I did not join the party with him. He has communicated to me that he is leaving the Labour Party. I gave him my blessings. But I will remain in the Labour Party, and I told him that I would continue the struggle to rescue the Labour Party,” Otti disclosed.
The governor also described the Labour Party as the platform that brought him to office, noting that his loyalty remained with the party for now.

“That is the party that brought me to power. If we fight and get to the end, and we are able to reposition the Labour Party, then we can discuss other options. Therefore, for now, I am not defecting to any party,” he added.
He equally reacted to recent calls by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, urging him to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Otti said he was not interested in being drawn into political distractions.
Otti acknowledged Kalu’s recent distribution of financial support to vulnerable people in the state, saying it aligned with his own appeal for assistance to the less privileged during the Christmas period.

He explained that upon his formal entry, Governor Yusuf and other NNPP stalwarts, including but not limited to, members of National Assembly, State Assembly, State Executive Council, Local Government Chairmen, Elected Councilors, political appointees and party faithfuls would be received into the APC under Dr. Ganduje’s leadership, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and collective responsibility.

A resolution signed by 27 ward executives said the decision was taken during the ward’s second executive meeting, led by the Ward Chairman, Shuaibu Hassan, with the secretary, Yahaya Saidu Dungurawa, in attendance.
According to the resolution, Dungurawa was removed over allegations of causing division within the party, fueling internal crises, failing to pay party dues, and making abusive comments against the Kano State Governor.

The executives said his alleged actions were unacceptable and harmful to the image, unity, and progress of the NNPP.
They stated that the decision followed the party’s constitution and was aimed at maintaining discipline, unity, and internal harmony within the party.

The ward leadership said copies of the resolution had been sent to the party’s local government, state, and national offices for further action.
“The decision had been communicated to the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf”.
The ward executives said the move was meant to warn party members who abuse their positions and act as if they are above party rules.

They reaffirmed their loyalty to the NNPP national leadership under Kwankwaso and pledged continued support for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, while stressing their commitment to peace, unity, and the growth of the party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State has said it was not informed of another primary reportedly conducted by a faction of the Accord Party in the state.

A faction of the Accord Party in Osun on Sunday reportedly held a primary election that produced Bamigbola Clement as its candidate for the August 8, 2026, governorship poll.

The exercise, held in Osogbo, the state capital, began with the accreditation of delegates.

A large contingent of armed police operatives was also observed around the venue.

Bamigbola, the only aspirant presented to delegates, confirmed his emergence.

“It is true. We had our primary, and I emerged the consensus candidate,”

However, INEC’s Public Relations Officer in the state, Musa Olurode, said the commission was unaware of the parallel exercise.

“We have monitored the only Accord Party primary a few days ago. The report has been submitted. INEC is not aware of any other party’s primary,” Olurode said.

According to the report reports that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, last Wednesday, emerged as the Accord Party candidate for next year’s poll.

Adeleke was the only aspirant in that primary, also held in Osogbo.

Announcing the result, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, Secretary of the electoral committee that conducted the primary, said Adeleke polled 145 votes out of 150 delegates drawn from the state’s 30 local government areas.

Five votes were voided.

“The electoral committee has delivered on its mandate. After voting and counting witnessed by the agents of the candidate and the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, having the highest number of votes, I declare Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the primary,” Salaudeen said.

Reacting to the factional primary, the caretaker Chairman of Accord Party in Osun State, Babalola Akande, said those who organised the exercise are not recognised by the party.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Akande reiterated that Adeleke remains the duly nominated and lawful governorship candidate of the Accord Party in the state.

He said, “This position is incontestable, irreversible, and firmly grounded in law, having emerged through due process in accordance with the Constitution of the Accord, the Electoral Act 2022, and established judicial precedents,” he said.

He urged Osun residents to ignore the “distractions, which are the handiwork of politically displaced actors who, having been repeatedly rejected by the electorate, now resort to impersonation, falsehood, and institutional sabotage in a futile bid to return to power through the back door.

“We are hearing that the person being used for this purpose is a legal practitioner. That, to us, will make our job easy, as our party will stop at nothing but to report him to the appropriate authorities, including the LPDC.

“We therefore make bold to state that any institution or authority that accords recognition, protection, or legitimacy to such impostors or their activities does so at its own legal peril, as the Accord will promptly and decisively invoke necessary judicial intervention to protect its constitutional rights, internal democracy, and the sanctity of the ballot.

“For the final time, and for the sake of emphasis, by virtue of the valid primary election lawfully conducted on Wednesday, 10th December 2025, Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke is the sole and legally recognised governorship candidate of the Accord in Osun State. No parallel structure, no impersonator, and no contrived spectacle can alter this legal reality.”
