The accusations, according to Sahara Reporters, are based on records that were acquired from the Abuja Force Headquarters.

According to reports, an internal police wireless message dated February 23, 2026, verified the contentious promotions.

According to the statement, which cited SH.4700/FS/FHQ/ABJ/T.3/40, the promotions were authorized after receiving correspondence from the Police Service Commission.

The message said, “Promotion Senior Officers x CSP to ACP x Ref Polscom Letnos. PSC/Prom/1/1096/II dated 31/07/2025 and PSC/Prom/1/1096/II dated 05/08/2025 x Ingenpol has graciously approved the release of promotion of the under-listed CSPs to substantive rank of ACP x with effect from the date indicated against their names.”

Authorities were also asked to recognize the promotions in the directive, which was distributed to numerous police commands and agencies throughout the nation.

The document said, “Please convey Ingenpol’s heartfelt congratulations to the affected senior officers x Gazette and Force Order publications to follow.”

The promotion of eight officials to Assistant Commissioner of Police from Chief Superintendent of Police was announced.

Ibrahim Tijani Umaira, Mohammed Amini, Usman Abdul Dimka, Iwok Ndifere, Muhammad I. Musa, Jimoh Shittu, Muhammad S. Ibrahim, and Promise Wosu are among them.

The promotions went into effect between July 28 and August 5, 2025, according to the paper.

Sources within the police hierarchy, however, said that payments were made to Police Service Commission officials affected the promotions rather than being solely based on merit.

“This promotion was secretly released by the Police Service Commission under former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun,” according to a senior police official with knowledge of the situation.

According to the source, each officer allegedly paid roughly ₦5 million to obtain the elevation.

“Under Egbetokun, these new unique promotions are carried out in secrecy. The insider continued, “There are claims that these men paid ₦5 million to obtain ACP rank while their course mates are left unpromoted.

According to reports, the development caused discontent inside the police, with several officers claiming they were passed over even though they met the requirements for advancement.

According to a second insider, “many qualified officers were ignored while others suddenly jumped ranks, creating serious tension within the force.”
