The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects and recovered two stolen motorcycles.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off and a thorough investigation.

The PPRO, in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Dutse, the State capital, said the first incident occurred on March 5, 2025, when an okada rider, Idris Ya’u, was attacked and robbed of his Bajaj red motorcycle with registration number TRN 704 QL Kano.

“The suspect, Haruna Alhaji Yusuf, was arrested on March 12, 2025, and confessed to the crime,” said SP Adam.

<amp-video-iframe src="https://360playvid.info/slidepleer/videoIframe.html?fn=s1184s" width="16" height="9" layout="responsive" dock="#pv-dock-slot" style=" overflow: visible !important;"> </amp-video-iframe>

In a related development, the police spokesman said another okada rider, Yunusa Suleman, was attacked and robbed of his motorcycle on March 13, 2024.

He disclosed that the suspect, Magaji Mohammed, was arrested while in possession of the stolen motorcycle.

Investigation according to the Police spokesperson revealed that Magaji Mohammed had hired a cyclist and instructed him to drive him to the government house’s Unity Pentagon roundabout.

“When he arrived at Dasina Quarters, where his criminal partner was located, he requested the cyclist to stop and One Suleiman Nasaru, who is now at large, appeared and hit the okada rider on his head with a hammer.

“As a result, the cyclist fell unconscious, and the suspects fled with the motorcycle. The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“The police command has commended the efforts of the vigilantes who collaborated with them to apprehend the perpetrators.”

The police spokesperson further explained that “the suspects are currently being investigated, and once completed, they will be prosecuted accordingly.”

Adam revealed that the command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens and also appealed to the public to provide useful information that can lead to the arrest of the other suspects.

Residents of the Alapere-Ketu area of Lagos State have raised the alarm over the recurring robbery incidents in the community.

Speaking to TheNigerian Metro on Saturday, the residents lamented that the incidents now occur almost daily.

They also specifically mentioned that the perpetrators carry out their operations unhindered, using motorcycles, tricycles and minibuses.

A resident, Olasunkanmi Lawal, said those heading to work in the morning are soft targets for the robbers.

<amp-video-iframe src="https://360playvid.info/slidepleer/videoIframe.html?fn=s1184s" width="16" height="9" layout="responsive" dock="#pv-dock-slot" style=" overflow: visible !important;"> </amp-video-iframe>

He said, “It is a disturbing situation for us here at Alapere. Cases of robbery incidents have increased for some days now. This happens in the morning when people are going to the office and when they return at night. We stopped experiencing this for a while until recently when we started to hear of people being attacked and robbed almost every day.”

Another resident, Segun Olanusi, said activities of motorcycle riders in the area had remained unchecked by security operatives.

He said, “Motorcycle riders now work 24 hours in our area which is not supposed to be so. The robbers use this alongside a minibus and tricycle to operate in our community. They use motorcycles mostly in the morning while using tricycles and minibuses in the evening. Just this past Sunday in the morning, a tailor was dispossessed of his belongings at gunpoint in Alapere. He was also attacked with his face brutalised in the process. This is just one of the many cases we record in the community.”

A member of the Community Development Association in the area who claimed anonymity citing security reasons, said other areas known for cases of robbery incidents include, Demurin, Goodluck and Oriola.

The source said, “There has been panic at Demurin, Goodluck and Oriola. The people plying the route have been complaining seriously. These thieves operate in those areas like no one could do anything to them. We have had some cases reported at the police station but we have not seen any improvement.”

It was gathered that enforcement of the ban on motorcycles in the area had slowed down, giving rise to the robbery incidents.

A community leader who preferred anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident berated the police for being unable to enforce the ban on motorcycle riders in the Alapere area.

The leader said, “The ban on Okada is not being enforced here. The riders keep working around this area and the police have failed to take action against them. This is not the case at Ikosi. When you go across towards Ikosi, you can’t see motorcycles working there and that is why the other side is free from robbery incidents. But here, they work 24 hours and that is why they operate without hindrance.

“As I speak, many victims of their operation have been left traumatised. We are helpless, we need help. We don’t want it to start resulting in the loss of lives before action is being taken by the authorities. That is why we are speaking up now.”

We want the Lagos State Police Command and the Lagos State Task Force to start enforcing the ban before things get out of hand,” the source added.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached as his telephone lines were not responded to as of the time of filing this report. A text message sent to him had yet to be responded to as of the time this report was filed.

Two suspected robbers have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for the alleged murder of an Uber driver identified as Dantes in the Effurun area of the state.

TheNigerian Metro learnt from a Facebook post by a Delta-based activist, Israel Joe, on Sunday, that the suspects had sought the service of a commercial sex worker before engaging the Uber driver to take them to their destination.

Joe noted that while the driver was conveying them to their destination, the suspects allegedly strangled Dantes with a twine rope, pushed his corpse out of his vehicle, and drove away.

He added that the suspects also allegedly attacked another driver who escaped unhurt and stole his vehicle.

<amp-video-iframe src="https://360playvid.info/slidepleer/videoIframe.html?fn=s1184s" width="16" height="9" layout="responsive" dock="#pv-dock-slot" style=" overflow: visible !important;"> </amp-video-iframe>

Joe wrote, “As they approached Aziza junction after the Mercy Land church, the fair one brought out a thick twined rope and strangled the driver from behind while the helpless prostitute was bailed up with a knife, by the other dark guy not to make a single noise.

“After strangling the driver, they pushed down his corpse and drove deep into the express where they had pity on the prostitute and dropped her. She had to trek back to town that same midnight.”

He stressed further that the suspects were arrested while attempting to sell the vehicle they had stolen from both victims after the police tracked a stolen phone to their location.

“They took the car to Agbor and put it on sale. They went to Benin and attempted to strangle another Hausa driver but he quickly shifted the car chair back, bent it backwards, opened the door, and ran. But they also brought the car to Warri and put it on sale,” he added.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a telephone chat with our correspondent on Sunday.

“Confirmed,” Edafe said.
