Wike made this disclosure on Thursday in Abuja during the commissioning of the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal, one of several infrastructure projects launched in celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.

The FCT administration had faced public scrutiny over the ₦39 billion spent on renovating the conference centre. However, Wike said the overwhelming bookings and recent high-profile usage — including an ECOWAS meeting hosted by President Tinubu — demonstrate that the project was a worthwhile investment.

“As I speak to you, that conference centre has been booked now till 2027. There is no space left,” the minister stated.
“I saw an application by the deputy speaker for a constitutional amendment event, but there’s no available date. I’m trying to adjust — if he can pay on time — because the facility is not free.”

Wike stressed that the facility operates on a commercial basis, with no exemptions for any government arm or official.

“There’s nothing like a National Assembly waiver. Everyone must pay to use the facility to ensure sustainability.”

Commending President Tinubu’s leadership, Wike noted that meaningful progress requires bold decision-making, even in the face of criticism.

“No leader can succeed without taking decisions. People will always have something to say — whether you act or not. The key is to do something and move forward.”

Highlighting ongoing efforts to modernize Abuja’s transportation system, the minister said the newly completed Kugbo and Mabushi Bus Terminals, along with the ongoing development of another terminal in the Central Business District, are designed to bring order to public transit in the FCT.

“We are not here to please only the elite; we are working to improve the lives of all residents — both rich and poor. That’s how to move this country forward, and that’s the vision President Tinubu has embraced,” Wike added.

The developments underscore the administration’s focus on delivering critical infrastructure while enhancing the functionality and appeal of the Federal Capital Territory.
