Taraba State Assembly Dismisses Rumours of Deputy Governor’s Replacement

The Taraba State House of Assembly has officially denied speculations that it is making plans to replace the Deputy Governor, Aminu Alkali, who is currently undergoing medical treatment in Abuja.

In a press briefing held in Jalingo on Thursday, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Nelson Len, stated clearly that there is no truth to the circulating reports suggesting the legislature is preparing to declare the deputy governor incapacitated.

He emphasized that Alkali remains the duly elected deputy governor and will resume his official duties once he has fully recovered. “We call on the general public to disregard the speculations that the assembly is preparing to declare the deputy governor incapacitated,” Len said.

According to him, none of the three arms of government in Taraba State — the executive, legislature, or judiciary — has initiated or is considering any move to remove or replace Alkali.

Deputy Governor Aminu Alkali has been on medical leave since November 2024, a development that has sparked concern in some quarters about the prolonged nature of his absence. However, the House assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure his full recovery and eventual return to office.

The clarification from the State Assembly is expected to put to rest rumours and promote stability within the Taraba State government.
