Terminally Ill Retired AVM Passes Away Onboard British Airways Flight

On a British Airways aircraft to Abuja, a former Nigerian Air Vice Marshal (AVM) reportedly passed away while the airline’s workers fought to save his life.

As they battled to revive the sick military officer, the jet carrying the deceased made an emergency landing at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport.

According to reports, Mrs. Tutu Otuyalo, the airline’s Regional Commercial Manager for Nigeria & Ghana, acknowledged the occurrence and stated that the deceased was terminally ill.

On Sunday, October 5, the flight left London’s Heathrow Airport at 11 p.m. with the intention of landing in Abuja at 5 a.m. on Monday. However, following the incident, the flight took an unplanned diversion to Barcelona.

However, it was learned that the retired AVM who was terminally ill was being taken back to Abuja for more medication prior to his untimely death.

In addition to expressing regret to the affected passengers, British Airways revealed yesterday that a new plane would be flying from Barcelona to Abuja.

The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience and promised that its Customer Care team would be on hand to help with any queries or issues, according to messages distributed to the passengers.

In addition to using the airline’s Live Chat tool for assistance, travelers are encouraged to anticipate receiving an email with more details.

In a general statement, British Airways informed the impacted customers, “British Airways acknowledges the inconvenience and thanks passengers for their patience and understanding.”

Azu Ishiekwene’s New Book on Technology and Midlifers Is Out

Azu Ishiekwene is a journalist, columnist, and author. Her latest book is named A Midlifer’s Guide to Content Creation and Profit.

The book’s ten chapters concentrate on how older adults can engage with and explore the new media landscape profitably, especially in light of the intricate and exciting advancements in generative artificial intelligence (AI).

“It shares insights with midlifers on the possibilities for rewarding their mental exertions handsomely, whether literary, artistic, or acoustic talent, or the sheer capacity to curate and tell a good story from their experiences using new technologies,” Ishiekwene, affectionately known as Azu, said in a statement.

The book, published by Premium Times Books, is regarded as a useful and practical resource for young adults working in the literary and media industries. It is a follow-up to “Writing for Media and Monetising It,” which was released in 2024.

“The book is a groundbreaking book that challenges the widespread belief, especially among the older generation (Gen X), that aspirations should diminish after the age of 50,” added Toyin Falola, a prominent teaching professor in the humanities and historian of African Studies, in the foreword.

“It’s another masterpiece from Azu, who is reaching new heights not only in the mastery of new media forms but also in his capacity to share his insights in meaningful ways,” stated Dapo Olorunyomi, the publisher of Premium Times.

Azu’s interest in new media has also led him to co-author a scholarly article with Prof. Farooq Kperogi titled “Light in a Digital Black Hole: Exploration of Emergent Artificial Intelligence Journalism in Nigeria” that was published in the Journal of Applied Journalism and Media Studies, publish a workbook on content monetization, and give multiple lectures.

According to the statement, his latest book, A Midlifer’s Guide to Content Creation and Profit, is available on www.azu.media and other international distribution channels.
