On Friday, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the governor of Benue State, gave youngsters in the state assurances that things will soon improve.
While returning from the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, the governor offered the promise to the youngsters at Wurukum roundabout in Makurdi, the state capital.
In Makurdi on Friday, a few young people, largely motorcyclists, swarmed the Food Basket roundabout when an altercation broke out between traffic police and several Nigerian Army officers.
After a brief break to calm the situation, Governor Alia spoke to the young and assured them of deliberate plans to provide jobs and include state youths in successful initiatives that will benefit both them and the Benue society.
He advocated the use of technical education and training for sustainable development to empower young people.
The state’s motorbike riders should always uphold law and order in the state, the governor added, and security personnel should not harass or physically harm any Benue resident who is working in a respectable way to support themselves. The governor also issued a warning against violence and the violation of human rights by security services.
He acknowledged the difficulty of the situation while assuring them that things will soon improve.
