The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with separate murder incidents across the state.
TheNigerian Metro learnt from a crime update document released by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Monday night, that the suspects include Mohammed Bello, a herder who allegedly killed a community chief in the Imeko area; Mutiu Abdul, a suspected cultist accused of shooting a young man during a street carnival; and Shaibu Abdulsalam, who reportedly stabbed a woman to death in a brothel in the Ogere area.
In the Imeko case, the document noted that an anonymous individual reported to the Divisional Police Officer that he had witnessed a murder scene while working on his farm.
According to the eyewitness, he heard a gunshot and a cry for help before seeing five men, suspected to be herders, fleeing the scene. Upon moving closer, he discovered the lifeless body of the community chief (Baale) lying in a pool of blood with assorted charms beside him.
The document stated, “The witness claimed that while working on his farm, he heard a gunshot and a voice crying out, ‘They have killed me.’ He saw five herdsmen, two of whom wore caps, fleeing the scene. The witness moved closer to the scene and found Baale’s lifeless body in a pool of blood with assorted charms beside him.
“Days later, the witness reported seeing one of the herdsmen who returned to the scene, wearing the same cap and retrieving the charms. The witness immediately contacted the So-Safe Corps, who arrested and handed the suspect, Bello Mohammed, over to the police.
“Efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. The case will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.”
Narrating the second incident, the document stated that one Seyi Oloyede reported to the police that his younger brother, Sunday Oloyede, was allegedly shot during a carnival in the Oke-Aro community on December 28, 2024.
According to the report, a misunderstanding arose during the carnival over the use of fireworks, leading the suspect, Mutiu Abdul, to allegedly fire a locally made pistol, killing Sunday.
It read further, “On 29/12/2024, at about 0842hrs, one Seyi Oloyede reported that his younger brother, Sunday Oloyede, aged 23, was attending a carnival organised by the youths of the Oke-Aro community on 28/12/2024 when one Mutiu Abdul, aged 39, a.k.a. Blood Tonic, fired a locally made pistol and killed the deceased over a misunderstanding involving fireworks.
“The suspect fled to Ikorodu, Lagos, where he was arrested. He confessed to the crime, and the investigation is ongoing.”
The third incident involved the arrest of Shaibu Abdulsalam, who was accused of stabbing a woman, Doosuur Aondofa, to death at a brothel in the Small London area of Ogere Toll Gate.
