Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the recently fired Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission, was reappointed for a second term on Friday by President Bola Tinubu. Until his reappointment is confirmed by the Senate, he will continue to serve in an acting capacity.

The replacement of the Ondo and Cross River state representatives on the commission board was also given the president’s approval.

These occurred just three days after the President gave his approval for Ogbuku’s replacement and the board’s bylaws.

Victor Akinjo, who represented Ondo State on the board, will now be replaced by Otito Atikase, while Oku Okang, who represents Cross River State, will be replaced by Otuk Duke, according to a statement released by the presidency on Friday.

Protests had followed the prior nominations.

Numerous protesters came to the streets of Abuja to voice their objection to Okang’s appointment, who is rumoured to be a PDP opponent. The demonstration followed a similar one that was staged in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, on Wednesday.

The Ondo State representative was replaced without providing an official explanation.
