Timi Frank, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy national publicity secretary, has praised Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, for denouncing the anti-democratic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
It was claimed that shortly after President Tinubu’s State of the Nation Address to a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, Dickson had criticized the current administration’s anti-democratic stance, particularly with regard to Rivers State.
Dickson attacked Tinubu for failing to point out that he had declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and every member of the State House of Assembly since March 2025.
In a Friday statement, Frank praised Dickson for his bravery and patriotism in calling attention to the absurdity of the executive and legislative branches’ flamboyant celebration of Democracy Day while a state in the nation is ruled by the military.
For his brave resistance to Tinubu’s imposed democratic aberration in Rivers State, he hailed Dickson as a national hero and a modern-day guardian of democracy.
He asserts that Dickson’s vocal opposition to Tinubu’s administration’s undemocratic inclinations will be remembered by future generations.
Instead of democracy and the rule of law, Frank bemoaned the APC’s and Tinubu’s government’s belief in authoritarianism, impunity, and one-party control.

According to him, Senator Dickson represented genuine opposition by expressing the opinions of many Nigerians. He has not only made me proud to be a Nigerian citizen, but also to be an Ijaw son.
“As a Bayelsan, he has inspired me. By speaking out against those who are undermining our democracy and the nation, he has made me, as a son of the Niger Delta, proud, as well as the entire nation.
He came out bravely to speak the truth at a time when so many Nigerian politicians who cut across party lines have turned into political cowards and sycophants.
People will remember him for his morally upright position in denouncing the Tinubu administration’s anti-democratic inclinations.
Since he was the only one to address the reality and the actual state of our democracy, history would never forget him. This is because Nigerians looked on leaders, particularly those in government, to speak the truth.
“What Dickson did is comparable to what lawmakers frequently do in other nations where democracy is practiced, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and even South Africa, where you see lawmakers confronting the president with the truth and expectations of the people.” We want him to know that even though he may appear to be alone, the Nigerian people are behind him.
“The world and Nigerians are with him, and we are encouraging him to do more by being fearless as usual, even if his colleagues across party lines may not support him because he is cowardly in his attempt to save our democracy.”
Frank further claimed that other National Assembly members knew Tinubu’s speech was heavily skewed toward propaganda and lies during the joint session, but they nevertheless praised the president out of sycophancy.
He said, “We are aware that there may be plans to suspend Dickson for his actions, similar to what the Senate did to other senators who have previously stood up for the truth, but let him not be alarmed because God and Nigerians will defend him.”
Because he would be better off standing with God and the majority than siding with the demonic and wicked leaders who are trying to undermine Nigerian democracy.
The Senate’s minority caucus has been completely undermined, which is disheartening because Dickson’s actions should have been taken by the Senate’s minority leader in the event of a fierce opposition.
