Sen. David Umahi, the Works Minister, claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is developing the South East region’s road and bridge infrastructure in a just and equitable way.
In a statement that he personally signed, Works Minister Engr. Umahi disclosed that he had been made aware of a “wrong and misleading” comment made by Mr. Linus Anagboso (D-Big Pen) on social media with the caption, “The Politics of Asphalt: Why is the South-East missing from the map?”
“Some people have closed their eyes over the great and selfless infrastructure development President Tinubu is doing all over the nation,” the Minister stated, adding further background to the region’s achievements under the Tinubu term.
The statement says, “I understand that politics is now in the air, and some people have chosen to deceive trusting members of the public to look good before their people as one fighting for them, and close both eyes, pretentiously, over the great and selfless infrastructure development Mr. President is doing all over the nation.”
“I have directed all Ministry of Works’ Zonal Directors to visit sites in each of the six geopolitical zones across the country and collect all inherited but ongoing projects as well as all new ones so that Nigerians, whether or not they voted for Mr. President, can appreciate the incredible work he is doing in every region.
“Only those who open their eyes will see the light of change in Nigeria, and Mr. President is using equitable infrastructure distribution to bring Nigerians back together and give them hope again.”

To correct this misinformation, the Minister responded, “Mr. President has four Legacy Projects, and they cover the six geopolitical zones,” for the record. “The South East zone is well captured within the Third Legacy project spanning Cross River-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-FCT, totaling 465km x 2 with South East covering 231.64km x 2 and 231.64km x 1 for ₦445.8 billion, already awarded and work is underway.”
“108 billion naira has already been paid by the president. After reviewing the corridor on July 31, 2025, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) decided to reduce its size from 118 km x 1 to 231.64 km x 1 for a total cost of ₦445.8 billion.
This dishonest author deliberately altered the story of my press briefing following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on the Trans Sahara Section 1 (the border between Ebonyi State and Benue State)—123.64 km at ₦445.8 billion—to refer to it as the OYO-BENUE BORDER ROAD in order to mislead and incite Nigerians.
“I demand that he correct the facts right away, even if he doesn’t apologize. Where was the author when President Tinubu decided to give the South East the similar degree of road development as other zones? During his administration, 90 percent of projects that had been shelved were revived and are now in progress, including several that had been awarded as early as 2013.
The enormous ongoing work on the 2nd Niger Bridge Access Roads, 2A in Delta State, valued at ₦146 billion, and 2B in Anambra State, valued at ₦176 billion, is still going on, but where is the gratitude? The Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway is divided into four sections, the Enugu-Abakaliki, Afikpo-Abia-Imo, Onitsha-Owerri-Aba, Aba-Ikot Ekpene, Umuahia to Ikot Ekpene roads, and the Enugu-Onitsha Road is 208 kilometers long (MTN Tax Credit is valued at 202 billion nig., and CBC (Nig.) Limited is completing the remaining section at ₦150 billion, of which ₦45 billion was released last week).
I urge everyone to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, since he has given the South East’s citizens love and fairness. We cannot be duped once more. Mr. President has to win up to 90% of the votes from the South East in order to fortify this alliance. I’m sick of the gloomy council in the South East.
“We must wake up and educate our citizens. If we want to be president, we must avoid the politics of hate, misinformation, and emotions. We shall eventually receive assistance from other zones with God’s help. For the sake of all regions, support is needed to ensure that Mr. President completes his eight-year tenure. One day, but not in 2027, we shall be the greatest.
“We are known for hard work and love, not hate,” the Minister said, promising to constantly fight any plan to mislead the people.
“I commend our leaders, the South Eastern Governors, for their support and the excellent work they are doing for our people. Voting for them and our beloved President to serve a second term in office is what I beg our folks to do. We’ll never fall for that again.
