On Saturday, July 8, President Bola Tinubu will travel from Abuja to Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, to attend the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States.

President Tinubu will attend the ECOWAS summit in Guinea-Bissau, according to a statement signed on Friday night by Dele Alake, the President’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy.

Participants are expected to discuss memoranda on five urgent sub-regional issues at the summit on Sunday, July 9.

Among them are “Report of the 50th Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council covering Security Challenges Faced by the Member Countries; Report of the 90th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Council of Ministers on the Financial Situation of the Body and the Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, as well as Report on the status of Transition in the Republics of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea,” Alake disclosed.

The Memoranda on the ECOWAS Single Currency Programme and the Report on Barriers to the Free Movement of Goods on the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor are two other topics that will be discussed.

The President is traveling to Guinea-Bissau for the first time since taking office on May 29, 2023.

He has already been to Paris, France, where he took part in the ‘A New Global Financing Pact’ summit that was held there from June 22 to 23 under the auspices of French President Emmanuel Macron.

President Tinubu traveled to London for a private visit from June 24 to June 27. While there, he reportedly met Muhammadu Buhari. He has so far committed eight days to engagements abroad.

He will be accompanied by a few members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council and other senior government figures.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Nigerian president is anticipated to return home.
