Tinubu’s Food Supply Truck Hijacked in Gombe Amid Ramadan Distribution

In Gombe State, a truck carrying essential food supplies designated for Iftar distribution was hijacked, causing widespread concern among the local Muslim community. The supplies, which included sugar and oil, were intended for distribution to assist fasting individuals during Ramadan.

The Public Relations Officer of the Gombe Police Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, explaining that the hijacking occurred after the initial offloading of the products. The sudden disappearance of the remaining food supplies created anxiety regarding their whereabouts.

In an interview with Punch on Monday, Abdullahi clarified that the truck had already delivered nearly 90% of the food items provided by Seyi Tinubu to the All Progressives Congress (APC) office in Gombe. The hijacking took place while the remaining supplies were in transit to another location.

“The truck was transporting food for Iftar that belonged to Seyi Tinubu. Regretfully, security wasn’t involved until things got out of hand and we understood something wasn’t right,” Abdullahi stated.

According to TheNigeria, the police promptly intervened and requested the truck driver to report for interrogation. The driver confirmed that he had successfully delivered most of the supplies before the hijacking and attested that the items were indeed meant for Gombe State.

Abdullahi emphasized the necessity of implementing proper security measures when distributing relief items. He pointed out that having security officers present during such activities could help prevent chaotic situations and ensure the safe delivery of supplies.

“The best scenario is to have security guards to manage crowds anytime you wish to distribute goods,” he stated. “Unfortunately, we were not notified about the distribution until the truck was hijacked, and by that time, people had started to panic, which led to the situation.”

The incident has sparked conversations regarding the importance of organized distribution processes, especially during critical periods such as Ramadan. Many residents have called for improved security protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Local authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the hijacking and to recover any missing supplies. They have also urged organizations and individuals involved in food distribution to engage security personnel to avoid unnecessary disruptions.

This event serves as a reminder of the logistical and security challenges that can arise when handling large-scale humanitarian efforts. As Ramadan progresses, authorities will need to implement stricter measures to safeguard aid distributions and ensure that intended beneficiaries receive their support without interference.

With heightened awareness and better planning, the Gombe community hopes to prevent such disruptions and continue providing assistance to those in need during the holy month.
