According to a report senators are feeling pressure from the administration to pass the 2024 budget quickly even though it doesn’t have all the information needed for a thorough analysis.

Concerned, a senator who wished to remain nameless and was cited in the paper asked why a national budget was passed without important information.

He said the lack of budget details makes arguments less informed and makes it more difficult for senators to evaluate how the budget would affect different industries and senatorial districts.

His quote:

Before December 31st, the National Assembly is anticipated to approve the budget. However, the senators have not yet received a copy of the budget for review. They are under pressure to approve the budget even in the absence of information.

“We’re not sure if the budget has been overly stretched for so many items. Senators could research all the areas and contribute intelligently to the debate if they had access to a copy of the budget.

“We will even have the chance to learn how it impacts various senatorial districts.”

Senators have not yet received a copy of the budget, according to the article, which was published.

The “Budget of Renewed Hope” was given by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly’s joint session last Wednesday.

Nevertheless, in spite of the budget’s second reading and referral to the Committee on Appropriations, important elements are still hidden.
