The Labour Party candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has threatened to challenge the PEPC’s decision upholding President Bola Tinubu’s victory.

Obi, whose appeal was denied by the court, issued a warning that the nation will lose good election law if precautions were not taken.

He emphasized that litigants who are unhappy with an election’s decision may turn to self-help if they continue to struggle to prove their case due to challenges from governmental organizations like the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Speaking through Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, Obi’s legal team, Obi declared: “If we are not careful, our electoral jurisprudence would finally perish. I say this with the utmost sincerity because if the litigant, or those who contested the election, continues to have a difficult time proving their case due to roadblocks put up by INEC, they may turn to other, potentially illegal, means of seeking redress.

“I applaud the Court of Appeal for implementing live broadcasting as well. You might remember that we asked the court, in its infinite wisdom, not to allow us to have live streaming of all the sessions.

“However, in the end, they realized its wisdom and the necessity of ensuring transparency, leading to the decision to stream the verdict live.

Of course, live streaming of the entire event would have been preferable so that the general public could witness and fully connect to the ruling.

Therefore, I will hope and pray that it will be ongoing this time, commencing at the commencement of a case.

“That is the only way that you can ensure transparency because when something is open, Nigerians will see things for themselves and they will decide, either way,” he continued.
