Dr. Philip Agbese Shares How Criticism Molded Pastor Dele Olawanle Into a Man of Impact
In a heartfelt post on his personal Facebook timeline, Hon. Dr. Philip Agbese reflected on the power of turning negativity into purpose by sharing the inspiring story of Pastor Dele Olawanle.
Pastor Olawanle recalled how a single disparaging remark in his youth became a turning point. “If you are not oversensitive, one negative comment by someone can change your life,” he wrote. “Because I was so stubborn, someone once said, ‘Dele cannot make it. He will end up being a hemp smoker.’ That statement jolted me. It made me run from cigarettes, Indian hemp, alcohol, and drugs. I became a responsible person.”
He also recounted being told he could never be a pastor due to his bluntness. “A man said I could not be a pastor because I was too direct with my words. By the grace of God, I have been a pastor for 23 years and have changed many lives. I am still making a generational impact.”
Rather than harboring resentment, Pastor Olawanle maintained a warm relationship with his critics. “They helped my life indirectly,” he said. “Stop reacting negatively to every negative thing said about you. Stop being childish. If they say you are too fat, go and lose weight.”
Dr. Agbese’s decision to share this testimony underscores his continued commitment to promoting resilience, self-improvement, and the value of maturity in leadership and life.
