We Can No Longer Be Silent — There Is a Christian Genocide Going On in Nigeria

We, the undersigned concerned citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, are deeply disturbed by the recent statement from the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) claiming that there is no Christian genocide in our country. As ordinary Nigerians who have witnessed years of bloodshed, displacement, and destruction, we cannot keep quiet while the truth is being denied before the whole world.

For over a decade, thousands of innocent Christians in Plateau, Benue, Southern Kaduna, Taraba, Niger, Adamawa, and Borno States have been killed in their homes, churches, and farmlands. Entire communities have been wiped out, their churches burnt, and survivors forced to flee with nothing but the clothes on their backs. These are not random attacks — they are targeted killings motivated by religious hatred and intolerance.

We are not politicians; we are citizens who live in fear every day. We have buried loved ones, we have seen villages burnt, and we have carried the wounded to hospitals that have no medicine. To say there is no genocide is to insult the memory of the dead and the pain of those still suffering.

Yes, both Muslims and Christians have faced violence in different parts of Nigeria, but the scale and frequency of attacks on Christian communities cannot be denied. Reports by Amnesty International, Christian Solidarity Worldwide, and Open Doors all confirm what we live through daily — that Christians are being deliberately targeted for extinction in some regions of this country.

We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to stop pretending that all is well. Let there be an honest investigation into the killings. Let justice be done for those whose lives were cut short because of their faith. Let our security agencies act without bias and protect every Nigerian, no matter their religion.

We are Nigerians — Muslims, Christians, and others — and we all deserve peace. But peace can never come where truth is denied. It is time for the government, religious leaders, and the international community to face reality and help end this tragedy before it consumes more lives.

Signed:
Concerned Citizens of Nigeria
For the sake of justice, peace, and truth.
