‘We’ve Received No Withdrawal Notice’ — Police Officers Remain at Companies Despite Tinubu’s Directive

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s directive to remove police officers from VIP protection responsibilities, Mobile Police Force officers assigned to corporate buildings and private businesses have continued to perform their tasks.

Recall that on Sunday, the president issued a nationwide order to remove police officers from VIP details and reallocate them to essential community enforcement duties.

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, revealed on Thursday that 11,566 officers who had previously been assigned to VIP protection responsibilities have been transferred to regular policing positions around the country.

However, Punch’s inspections of the company’s Abuja locations revealed that officers stationed at work sites, security gates, and corporate buildings had not left their positions.

A mobile police guard at an Abuja construction business informed Sunday Punch on Friday that he had not been directed to stand down.

“We have not been asked to leave, and I don’t think we would be asked to go because the majority of people here are foreigners,” he stated.

Mobile Force members were still reporting for duty, according to an employee of another company in the Jabi area.

“The officers guarding our offices are still there,” the personnel stated. One of them told me yesterday that the directive excluded those connected to businesses.
