What You Didn’t Know About Army Spokesman, Col Sagir Musa

Col Sagir Musa was born in Batsari LGA in Katsina State on 25 October 1967. He was a member of the defunct Nigerian National Guard (NNG) Course 1, commissioned as a Second Lieutenant at the Nigerian Defence Academy on the 4th day of January 1993. With the disbandment of NNG, Sagir (along with his course mates) was reabsorbed into the Nigerian Army (NA) as a DR Officer on 4th January 93. Immediately he was commissioned into the NA, Col Sagir Musa was posted to the Directorate of Army Public Relations. 
 
The senior officer has attended the following courses of international recognition among others; Strategic Communication Course at NASPRI Bonny Camp Lagos, Public Information Course at National Institute of Public Information, Kaduna, Media engagement in crisis situation at the Centre for Crisis Management Abuja, Crisis Management and Planning at the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Lagos, Online Communication Technology: A means to maximize Public Relations Goals at the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Lagos, Enhancing the capacity of APROs in handling current security challenges, 1 Div workshop Kaduna, Bridging the communication gap between the NA and the media, DAPR workshop, 82 Div Enugu, Leveraging new media towards combating security challenges, DAPR workshop NDA Kaduna, Promoting accuracy in reporting military affairs, DAPR workshop, Scorpion Mess Abuja and Inter agency workshop on Civilian protection policy and practice during operations, Centre for Crisis Communication, NAF Offrs Mess Abuja to mention but a few. 
 
Col Sagir has attended the following schools and obtained the under listed qualifications; Govt Sec Sch Batsari from 1979 to 1984 where he obtained his WAEC O’ Level result. He later proceeded to College of Advance Studies Zaria for his IJMB  A’ Level certificate in  1986. It is worthy of note that Col Sagir attended the prestigious Bayero University Kano where he obtained bachelor of science degree in political science in 1989. 
 
Other institution and qualifications obtained with dates include Times Institute, Independent Journalism Centre, Ikeja Lagos – PGD Broadcast and Print Journalism, 2004, Upper Credit; Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos PGD Print Journalism, 2005, Upper Credit, Buckingham University, United Kingdom, Masters of Arts in Security and Intelligence Studies,  2014 – 2015. He graduated with a distinction.
 
The new image maker is also a member of the following professional bodies; Fellow Chartered Institute of Corporate Administration, Member Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Member Nigerian Union of Journalists Enugu State Chapter.
 
An assessment of his roles and years in service, revealed that Sagir has held the following appointment; APRO Command and Staff College Jaji – 1993 – 1996, CSO Mil Administrator Cross River State – 1997 – 1998, ADC MIL Administrator Kaduna state – 1998 – 1999, Pioneer APRO NACAS Kontagora – 1989 -2002, Cantonment Security Offr, Nagwamatse Barracks, Kontagora – 2000 – 2001, Security offr Nig Army/ Mil Trg Area Kontagora 2001 – 2002, CPRO – NAFRC Oshodi, Lagos – 2003 – 2006, Secretary NAFRC Tenders Board – 2005 – 2006, APRO 2 Bde Phc and Spokesman JTF Op FLUSH OUT 111 – 2006 -2009, ADAPR 82 Div – 2009 – 2011, Spokesman JTF OP RESTORE ORDER 1 Maiduguri – Feb 2011 – Jun 2013, Pioneer DDAPR 7 Div Jul  – SEP  2013, DDAPR TRADOC – SEP 2013 – SEP 2014, Executive Director Corporate Affairs, NAWLG, Abuja – Sep 2015 – Feb 2016, DDAPR DHQ Gar and later appointed acting Admin Offr – Feb 2016 – Jul 2016, DDAPR 82 Div – Jul 2016 –  Jan 2019.
 
Col Sagir Musa was appointed Director Army Public Relations on 11th February 2019 by the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai. He assumed office on 14th February 2019 as the 25th Director Army Public Relations.
 
Furthermore, Col Sagir Musa over time has garnered the following  operational experiences in his purposeful career by playing active roles during the following exercises; OPERATION FLUSH OUT 111 in the Niger Delta from 2007 – 2008, OPERATION SILVER JUBILEE in Abia State (2010), OPERATION RESTORE ORDER 1 (2011), OPERATION BAYONA in the NE (2013), OPERATION PYTHON DANCE (2016), OPERATION EGWU – EKE (2017)
 
In recognition of his immense role to nation building in line with the ethics and operational rules of the Nigerian Military, Col Sagir Musa has received many commendation letters/awards for professional excellence. Famous among these honour include; Corp Comd NACAS Maj Gen ET Dowyaro (Rtd) – 2002, COAS Commendation Letter Lt Gen ML Agwai  – 2006, Provost Marshall Maj Gen YD Pyeng (Rtd) – 2011, Director Army Public Relations Brig Gen AC Olukolade – 2011, Award for Best Overall Participant in Strategic Communication Cse 1, NASPRI, 2016, Great African Merit Award – 2006, GOC 82 Div Maj Gen AB Abubakar – 2017 
 
The Acting Spokesman earned the following medals in appreciation of his professional zeal; Force Service Star, Meritorious Service Star, Silver Jubilee Medal, General Operation Medal and Field Command Medal.
 
Sagir is married and blessed with  children. He likes travelling, reading and horse riding.
