Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, before the end of his tenure.

Kanu, according to Iwuanyanwu, should be released to care for his deteriorating health.

Speaking in Enugu yesterday, the elder statesman stated that if Kanu is released, Nigerians will be relieved.

While Kanu is detained, Iwuanyanwu believes the Southeast will find it difficult to reach an agreement with the Federal Government.

“It is also important to note that the judiciary has discharged and freed Nnamdi Kanu,” Iwuanyawu says. Many Igbos and Nigerians will rejoice if Kanu is released from detention.

“It has also been reported that his health is deteriorating.” I believe it is critical that he be released so that he can see his doctors and avoid dying in prison.”

Kanu has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) since he was arrested in Kenya and repatriated to Nigeria in 2022.
