The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, had a close friend named Muhammadu Dallatu, who revealed why the monarch was unable to attend the funeral of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall that on Sunday, Buhari passed away in a London hospital at the age of 82. In Daura, Katsina State, he was buried on Tuesday at his compound.
Dallatu told Punch that the emir is now on an official assignment in the United Kingdom and will likely return to Nigeria on Wednesday.
According to him, “The Emir will not be present.” Not only is he out of the country. On Wednesday, he is anticipated to return from his formal engagement in London.
The aforementioned publication conducted more research, which showed that Emir Sanusi participated in the 2025 Access Bank Polo Tournament on Saturday in Surrey, England, where he was spotted with notable international personalities, such as Thomas Tuchel, manager of England’s national football team.

On the other hand, on Tuesday morning, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, went to the state funeral of the deceased former president in Daura.
According to Bayero’s spokesperson, Abubakar Naisa, the Emir was accompanied by Jigawa State traditional leaders, confirming the development.
Kofar Naisa confirmed that His Highness Aminu Ado Bayero has left Kano this morning (Tuesday) to pay his final respects in Daura. “He is going to the burial with the Dutse and Kazaure Emirs.”
Since Muhammadu Sanusi II was overthrown, the Kano Emirate has been embroiled in a power struggle. He was the Emir from 2014 until March 2020, during the tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
