President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to modernize public facilities and increase access to high-quality education, includes the reconstruction of 73 Government Secondary Schools in Abuja, according to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike.
Wike said the huge investment in school renovation and road infrastructure shows President Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling his promises to Nigerians. He made the announcement Tuesday at the flag-off of the rehabilitation of the 15-kilometer Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei.
The Minister stated that 33 more projects will soon be flagged off, while 73 of the 103 Government Secondary Schools in the FCT are presently undergoing rehabilitation. “AMAC and the city are home to 73 of the 105 ongoing projects. This administration is making a lot of effort to improve the lives of Abuja residents and Nigerians.
Wike pointed out that President Tinubu had approved a number of significant interventions, like the Old Keffi Road project, to reduce traffic, improve connectivity, and stimulate economic activity in FCT areas.
Rehabilitating Saburi 1 and Saburi 2 roads was one of the emergency projects the President ordered when he took office in 2023, he said, adding that the Old Keffi Road reconstruction carries out a pledge given to locals and traders at the time of the project’s initial commissioning.
“I stated that the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei was a prerequisite for the commissioning of the Saburi Road. To God’s honor, we are here today to keep President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment,” Wike stated.
The Minister said that because of the caliber of their previous work and their shown technical ability, Lubrik Construction Company, which managed the Saburi project, has once again been given the 15km Old Keffi Road reconstruction.
Wike also praised Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), for always supporting key initiatives that address the needs of locals and for being a “true representative of his people.”
Selecting leaders who are dedicated to pursuing your needs and who comprehend them is what true representation entails, he stated. “For the sake of continuity, Chairman Maikalangu deserves your continued support.”
The Minister cautioned citizens not to be influenced by politicians who “failed to deliver when they had the chance” and asked them to continue supporting the Tinubu administration.
“Don’t fall for people who come with false pretenses. They failed the first time we gave them a chance. We gave them another chance, but they were unsuccessful. He warned, “They will destroy everything if we make the mistake of giving them a third chance.”
The FCT Administration has scheduled 27 project flag-offs throughout Abuja, according to Wike, which he stated “has never happened before.” He emphasized that the projects are concrete proof of the President’s dedication to development.
In order to provide economic benefits to the host communities during the project’s execution, he instructed the construction business to prioritize local content by hiring men, women, and youths from those communities.
Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the FCT Minister of State, thanked President Tinubu in her vote for his unwavering support of infrastructure renewal and his emphasis on projects that have a direct impact on citizens’ lives.
“Thousands of commuters use this road every day as a lifeline, connecting communities, cutting down on travel time, enhancing road safety, and promoting socioeconomic activity along this axis,” Mahmoud stated.
She also praised Wike for his deliberate leadership, calling the project another example of the administration’s dedication to inclusive development and connectivity in the FCT.
