Wike Claims PDP G5 Prevented National Crisis

According to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, the G5 Governors’ activities during the 2023 presidential election were crucial in keeping Nigeria stable and averting post-election chaos.
According to reports, Wike said this on Monday in Abuja during a meeting with “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP” from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In order to maintain the North-South zoning structure, the G5 Governors decided not to back Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was the party’s presidential candidate, according to the former governor of Rivers State.

Wike, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo) were all members of the G5 group.

“You may like us or you may hate us, but the fact is that this country would have been in crisis if the G5 had not made our decision,” Wike said.

“We still stand by that decision because it was the right thing to do, regardless of who the beneficiary was.”

Wike claims the PDP disregarded the constitution.
Wike, a fervent opponent of the PDP leadership, said that the party’s electoral failure stemmed from its disregard for its own zoning constitution.

“We have consistently emphasized the importance of respecting both the national and party constitutions,” he stated. “We wouldn’t be where we are now if the party had paid attention to what we had to say.”

He warned that vanity and money were endangering the opposition party’s existence and accused certain party officials of acting without consequence.

Wike warned, “We must continue to bring people together, pacify them, and refrain from saying that they should go to hell.” “Let’s prevent ego and greed from ruining our party.”

Wike expressed hope that if party stakeholders band together and address the underlying causes of discord, the PDP can yet rebound despite internal strife and the aftermath of the 2023 elections.

Other notable PDP leaders, such as former governors Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Samuel Ortom, were present at the gathering. Former Senate Minority Leader Senator Philip Aduda and PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu were also in attendance.
