Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has stated that he is keeping a careful eye on events within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) branch in Oyo State. He emphasizes that his worry is rooted in his dedication to the party’s survival and strength.
According to reports, Wike made the comments on Monday during his speech at the 105th PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
“Let me be clear about my interest: I want this party to succeed and survive. I am also curious in all that is going on in the Oyo State PDP. I’m only interested in that,” he said.
Wike also denied allegations of intimidation against PDP members, especially considering recent court rulings in favor of his party’s section.
“Who will intimidate us to the end?” he said. By God’s grace, there are some among us who do not perceive any threat. The legal battle has collapsed. They are forced to acknowledge the Caretaker Committee.
His remarks seem to allude to the power struggle within the Oyo PDP after a faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State called off a rival national convention in November 2025.
The Makinde-Bala group’s convention was previously declared invalid by the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, which sided with the faction that formed a Caretaker Committee for the state.
