Wike Says, ‘If We Didn’t Want Rivers Emergency Lifted, We Could Have Done Something’

Rivers State is now completely at peace, and all parties involved are prepared to cooperate, according to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.
He promised that other stakeholders have decided to let peace reign in the oil-rich state, despite the fact that some individuals who stand to gain from the crisis that shook Rivers State don’t want it to return.

Wike stated that he is totally in favor of the peace process and the full restoration of democracy in Rivers State, adding that he could have taken one or two actions to keep the state of emergency that President Bola Tinubu had imposed in the state in place.

According to reports, Wike made the submission during a Channels Television interview on Thursday.

Following President Tinubu’s lifting of the emergency rule in Rivers State, the FCT Minister disclosed that he had a conversation with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and that peace had now totally returned.

“To the glory of God, as I speak to you, peace has returned after we all gathered and decided how to proceed. I can tell you that, despite all odds, peace has restored as of yesterday after speaking with the governor.

As I speak to you, I had a conversation with Governor Fubara yesterday. He informed me that he was departing this morning after I informed him that I would be returning that evening.

By God’s mercy, peace has returned, I can tell you that. You can see peace and that we are ready for the state’s interest by looking at what the Assembly accomplished today to set the tone. Let’s proceed.

Some people are born crisis builders who believe they can only get an advantage during a crisis, according to what I saw on TV today. We would have taken one or two steps to guarantee that the state of emergency would remain in place if we didn’t want it to be lifted,” he stated.
