WTO: Okonjo-Iweala, a beacon of hope for Nigeria- Wike
Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has described Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as a beacon of hope for a better Nigeria.
Governor Wike stated this on Monday while congratulating Dr. Iweala on her new appointment as the Director-General, World Trade Organization (WTO).
Wike, who served in the Federal Executive Council with Dr Okonjo-Iweala during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, said he has no doubt that the appointment of Iweala will usher in a new era in the WTO, especially as she has distinguished herself as a renowned economist, and contributed to the economic successes of many nations.
According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, the governor described the former finance minister and World Bank Director as someone who has consistently demonstrated an exceptional taste for transparency and passion for equity.
“Having served in the Federal Executive Council with Dr Okonjo-Iweala, I am confident that she will remain committed to her principles of transparency, accountability and equity, which the world is yearning for.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Rivers State, I also take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt congratulations to you as a beacon of hope for our dear nation,” the statement concluded.
