Yeni Kuti, the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s daughter, has stated that her father was not a good father.

She, on the other hand, described the late musician as an icon and a role model.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she stated this.

Yeni stated that she never confronted her father about not being a good father, but the late singer and his first son, Femi, were constantly at odds.

“He [Fela] was not a very good father,” she said. No, I never told him he was a bad father. Perhaps Femi, but not me. Femi and Fela used to fight each other. And Femi will tell him the truth.

“Shola and I were very timid. They used to say that when two elephants fight, the grass stays quiet.

“One day, Fela just came in and said, ‘three of you are useless children.'” ‘For what?’ said Femi. Femi simply turned to face him, and then they turned to face each other. ‘It’s okay,’ Shola and I will say. Fela will say ‘No’. And Femi simply said, “Let him go.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever had that kind of argument with my father.” Perhaps because I was a woman.”
