Ahead of the local government election, the Inter-Party Advisory Council, (IPAC), Yobe State chapter, has charged the State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) to shun partisanship and discharge its duties as required by the constitution.

IPAC Chairman of Yobe Chapter, Umar Adamu Jajere, gave the charge on Saturday, while addressing newsmen in Damaturu, Yobe State capital.

“We are also calling on the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to shun partisanship and discharge its duties as required by the constitution,” he urged.

The chairman advised eligible voters in the state to come out en masse and vote for the party of their choice on May 25, 2024.

“We also acknowledged the commitment of the governor to make sure the election takes place in a free, fair, and conducive environment.

“In fact, we are assured by His Excellency, Hon Mai Mala Buni, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, that an equal playing ground will be provided by all the candidates of various registered political parties,” Jajere said.

This is coming as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state had earlier announced that, it would not participate in the upcoming local government election.

The main opposition party also accused the state electoral umpire of delibrately refusing to notify political parties in the state about the schedule of activities with respect to the upcoming election.
