Here Comes A Man That Is More Than Idi Amin Dada Of Uganda!
According to Thomas Hobbes, “a perpetual and restless desire of and for power ceases only in death”.
I could conclude that this would be the case of Yoweri Museveni, though not a wish, but as deduced from his political psychology and aspiration to remain on power till eternity!
Museveni masters the psyches of his people of Uganda, and constantly build for himself loyalists that are no longer ashamed of sycophancy. Perhaps, you may want to say he knows how to massage their egos and communicates perfectly to their understanding; no doubt, public relation opined that ‘communication breaks barriers’, and in this respect, it puts aside the hatred and ill feelings the people of Uganda conceived against the president who has been on the seat of power, controlling the affairs of Ugandans for over three (3) decades!
Milton Apollo Obote led Uganda to its independence from the UK on 9th October 1962 and President Sir Edward Luwangula Walugembe Muteesa II became the first democratic president of the East African nation from 09th Oct. 1963 when Uganda became a republic. He led till 2nd March 1966.
Prior to their independence, Queen Elizabeth II was the head of state and queen of Uganda at the same time.
Sir. Edward luwangula handed power to Milton Obote who fought for their independence and Obote became president from 15th April 1966 – 25 January 1971; his second coming to power wasn’t palatable to the likes of the brutal dictator, Idi Amin Dada who eventually toppled him in 1971 and ruled for only eight years from 1971-1979.
Successive administrations came after then in Uganda; the likes of president Yusuf Kironde Lule, who served just for two months and handed over to Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa, who served from June 20th 1979 to 12th May 1980; then the second coming of Obote Apollo was birthed on the 17th Dec. 1980 to 12th may 1985 (4yrs plus) and he paved way for interim administration of an army general called Tito Okello Lutwa, on the 29th July 1985 to 26th January 1986, a regime known as the transition period for Museveni to take overpower.
Let it be known that ideally, Museveni toppled both Idi Amin Dada and Milton Apollo Obote at a different time but within close intervals. He succeeded with his fierce and subtle style of rebellion!
So it was easy for him to cease power, having won the hearts of Ugandans at the time, and he became president by the art of war using arm uprising in 1986.
Since then, Museveni believed and conceived that no Ugandan should cultivate the plantation of power which he laboured and sowed 36 years and counting, he remains on and with power to date.
The point is trying to make is that if previous presidents of the nation of Uganda were power drunk like Museveni, would he be president today? Imagine if each of the Seven administration that was presidents at different time, held on to power for 35 years each, it should have just been Two administrations after their independent! Museveni no doubt might have been good to his people in certain areas, kind to their feelings, but have Ugandans been emancipated from the undemocratic and quagmires characterized with oppressing freedom of association, suppressing parties opposed to the ruling national resistance movement; common basic amenities? The answer is no! The nucleus of this article cum documentary is that the former warlord has no doubt gain over time, the loyalties of all the military, paramilitary and the democratic institutions of Ugandans, whether inform of what lord acton described as a corruption of absolute power; where the masses either love you as a leader or fear you as a ruler by compromising their genuine thought about you. In the fact that Ugandans now have only two choices, either to love Museveni or fear him and do whatever he says! The whole democratic and Military institutions in Uganda compromises the tenets of oath to sycophantically support whatever the democratic Dictator says. This is the case and situation that Ugandans found themselves.
Africa has experienced some Military cum democratic Dictators and “sit tight to power” Rulers. Few of which emancipated their Countries. The likes of late Muammar Gaddafi of Libya ruled his country for over Four (4) decades, but liberated them from basic amenities and implemented social security for his people. Though, a highly divisive figure, Gaddafi dominated Libya’s politics for four decades and was the subject of a pervasive cult of personality. He was at some times, very dictatorial even with tendencies characterized as domestic terrorism!
The late President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe was another power drunk ruler of Africa. He came into power as a Prime Minister of Zimbabwe from 1980 to 1987, metamorphosed into President from 1987 to 2017, totalling thirty-seven (37) whooping year as Prime Minister and President respectively. But was his country of Zimbabwe emancipated from underdevelopment and poverty? No! Don’t forget that he too was a revolutionary; it seems it is the perception of most Revolutionaries who conceived that it is better to die on power than to step down for others to lead them! Then, where is the mentorship?
Originally, I wouldn’t bother about the power elongation of President Museveni, but I would rather see the African Continent and her Leaders, groom Leaders that should and ought to succeed them. A man should give birth to children, groom them to be independent leaders, that may, the idea of mentorship would be vivid in our polity.
The ungodly roles of EU and other election observers in Uganda!
The just-concluded election of Uganda where the demi-god of Uganda, Museveni is elected president for the 6th time was characterized with violence to the detriment of opposition parties and stakeholders who dared to challenge him from contesting! For example watch, this video footage uploaded with this article, and you shall understand that even the security architecture of Uganda are instituted to serve the insatiable quest for power by the president. The same way the Ugandan parliament amended the constitution twice and the judiciary interpreted to accommodate the greedy lust for power of Yoweri Museveni who has become an institution himself with his act of dictatorship, fascism and fierce gluttony. Herein, the Uganda paramilitary under the directive of the Ugandan lord of the skies, prior to the January 14th 2021 election, assaulted and dehumanized Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi, the wife of the leading opposition candidate to Museveni. popularly known as Bob wine or the Ghetto President, is a Musician cum Politician and the Candidate of the National Unity Platform (NUP), the strongest opposition party to the ruling National Resistance Movement that has flagged Museveni for six consecutive times.
Bob Wine’s family has gone through the worst of intimidation in the past three weeks with his personal secretary not being found after security took her away; his wife was stopped on her way to a campaign rally and treated this way (as seen in the uploaded video). If this is not seen by the international communities and election observers as assault or electoral violent, then the Federation of International Female Lawyers Association-FIDA should take this up with the government of Uganda before the International Criminal Court of Justice. Is this act and several electoral violence, now part of our African elections? Yet, the EU and other International Observers adjudged the election of Uganda as peaceful, credible and transparent!
Now, the question is, for how long would EU, the US and other observers compromise such empiric act of using the people’s resources vested on their Leaders to maim the same people? The answer is simple and it is the fact that for the Lion to feed, something must have to die or be killed! EU and other observers are definitely killing Africa in order to feed, hence the reason the always side with bad leadership in Africa, but wouldn’t tolerate the same in their continent!
Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi, the wife of Ugandan musician cum politician, Bobi Wine was tortured and stripped in the presence of their son by some Police Officers before she was allegedly arrested. Her husband, Robert Kyagulanyi who is currently serving as a member of parliament for Kyadondo County East constituency, was hoping to unseat President Yoweri Museveni, in the Thursday, January 14th Presidential election. But again, due to the factors elaborated above in this article, he lost to the Democratic Emperor of Uganda who has been in power since 1986! Aside from this, figures have it that more than 54 persons lost their lives in the violence unleashed by security operatives and thugs loyal to the ‘life president’ of Uganda known as Emperor Yoweri Museveni.
Thank God for the social media, though banned in Uganda, before the election, this video was shared on Twitter by one Anyamah Douglas, a Ugandan National and it caught the attention of the whole world including myself, and this is the reason, I wish to bare my mind on our continental leadership that seems to retrogresses Africa rather than progressing it beyond animalistic leadership! As an African man, I wish to see that leaders of Africa imbibe the ethics of freedom, equality and social justices for all Africans, even if opposition! That way, the light of each one of us shall illuminate the darkness that hovers over the continent!
Africa must learn to be Leaders in all sense of it, especially, mentorship capable of breeding young leaders of the 21st Century.
Africa is indeed and realistically in search of a true system of government that would suit her people’s peaceful coexistence and progress!
