The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that the ongoing registration of voters is free.
The Niger state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Commission, prof Samuel Egwu in a statement said it is an offense to induce officials of the Commission to get registered.
He therefore urged residents to report any breach of their rights to relevant authorities.
Prof Egwu was reacting to allegations that officials of the Commission in the state collect between N200 to N300 from eligible registrants.
He said this is contrary to the position of the Commission, saying it is totally unacceptable that eligible Nigerians will be forced to pay to get registered.
He said, “the continuous voters register is free, and is the constitutional right of every Nigerian citizen to freely register and vote.
“that citizens are expected to present themselves at the designated registration centre
