15 arrested for public disturbance in Bauchi

The operatives of Bauchi Police Command have announced the arrests of 15 suspects for public disturbance in the state.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a press release issued to journalists on Sunday.

He explained that the group was reported to have attacked innocent civilians and targeted the Civilian Joint Task Force the office located near the Kandahar Primary School.

According to Wakil, the assailants set fire to the Civilian JTF office and a portion of the State Government Primary School.

He said, “During this unrest, members of the Civilian JTF confronted the attackers, resulting in one of the assailants, identified as Saidu Musa, 22, sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest from a locally-made firearm.

“In response to the situation, a team of police operatives was promptly dispatched to the scene. They successfully de-escalated the conflict and evacuated Saidu Musa to the Specialist Hospital for medical treatment.”

The PPRO revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that “On 18 December 2024, the Civilian JTF encountered a group of restive youths in the Kandahar area. Following this encounter, on December 19, 2024, the disgruntled youths regrouped and initiated a violent attack against the Civilian JTF office and the government primary school, inflicting damage and causing distress among innocent citizens.”

He noted that the swift response of police operatives has brought the situation under control.

He further stated that 15 suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, and investigations were ongoing.

The PPRO said Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, condemned unprovoked acts against government facilities in the state.

He urged the citizens of Bauchi State to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report any concerns to the relevant authorities.

The statement added that the police commissioner had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to undertake a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dastardly act.
