Two people were on Saturday and Sunday killed following a renewed cult war in Awka, Anambra State.
It was learnt that one of the victims was killed on Saturday on Udeke Street in Umudioka community, while the second was killed on Sunday at Parkers Joint in Umuogbunu community.
A witness told our correspondent that the second victim went to withdraw money from a POS point when a rival cult group sighted him and pursued him into Parkers Joint and shot him dead.
He explained that the rival cult group earlier went to the victim’s family house and inquired about him from his father.
Recall that on Easter Sunday and Monday nine people were reportedly killed in a cult war in Awka.
When contacted via telephone, the Anambra State Police Command’s spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, said there was no such report before the police.
Meanwhile, an elder who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, noted that Awka would be free of cult operations if there were no sponsors.
He said some people were sponsoring the cult war in the city using the children of the poor while their children were abroad studying.
He, therefore, called on the state government to intervene and save Awka from “this senseless killings going on over the years.”
