The Federal Government has announced that ministers will commence periodic press briefings next week to provide Nigerians with updates on government policies and activities.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, stating that President Bola Tinubu had mandated all ministers to engage with the public regularly to promote transparency and accountability.

According to Idris, the briefings will serve as a platform for ministers to highlight key developments in their respective ministries, address public concerns, and combat misinformation.

“In 2024, we hosted 25 ministers at these briefings and reached millions of people in Nigeria and abroad on traditional and digital media platforms,” Idris said.

“Over the next three months, as we approach the second anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, we will bring Honourable Ministers to this platform weekly.

“This year, 2025, is a year of consolidation, a year for building on the gains we have seen in the first 19 months of the administration,” he added.

Idris highlighted the administration’s commitment to lowering food costs through large-scale agricultural investments.

“Now, what the government is doing is ensuring massive production of food items. Once supply increases, prices will naturally decline,” he explained.

On security, the minister stated that in 2024, security forces neutralised over 8,000 terrorists and bandits, arrested 11,600 suspects, and recovered more than 10,000 weapons. He also noted that about 8,000 kidnapped victims were rescued.

“While we still have a lot of work ahead, our highways have grown safer. The once-notorious Abuja-Kaduna highway is one example. There is still more to be done, and we will not relent,” Idris assured.

Regarding economic reforms, he underscored the positive effects of fuel subsidy removal and other policies aimed at stabilising the economy.

The ministerial press briefings, set to run weekly, come ahead of Tinubu’s second anniversary in office, reinforcing the government’s commitment to keeping citizens informed about its programs and initiatives.
