The state government and civic-minded persons have been encouraged to give the condition of children in the state’s special needs schools more consideration by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, or NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council.

During the 2025 Valentine Charity outing of the NUJ’s Inspiration FM chapel, which had as its subject “A Heart For Others,” held at the Learning Disabilities Society of Nigeria, LDSN, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Amos Etuk, the Chairman of NUJ, Akwa Ibom State, made the call on Friday.

According to Etuk, the new Education Commissioner should put special children’s needs and welfare first in order to ensure a smooth learning environment for them.

He added that he hoped Governor Umo Eno would visit the center and attend to their urgent needs one day as a result of the union’s advocacy.

Additionally, he praised their teachers for their perseverance in instructing and mentoring the special needs kids and prayed that they would soon have enough support and assistance.

“This is the best Valentine’s Day moment I’ve seen,” he said. I have a great belief in God, and I observe the gregarious kids.

“I’m going to push harder for the government to give them more consideration. Through persuasion, I am confident that our receptive governor, who is passionate about education and humanity, will eventually come to this location.

Comrade Imaobong Dem, the Chairman of Inspiration FM Chapel, welcomed visitors earlier in her remarks and reaffirmed how hard it is for parents of special needs children to provide for them, noting that they go above and beyond to care for them.

According to Dem, she learned from her contacts with the parents of these kids that the majority of them are exceptionally talented and proficient in painting, drawing, and other artistic mediums.

Therefore, in order to help these kids fulfill their God-given mission, she asked for the support they needed, especially from their parents.

“If you look closely, you’ll see that many parents of these kinds of kids are by themselves. They will accomplish much more if we give them greater assistance. Children with autism or down syndrome are exceptionally talented and require a great deal of assistance, she said.

On behalf of the center, Inimfon Okorie thanked IFM chapel for the cooperation and for continuously selecting LDSN for their Valentine’s Day celebrations, while also accepting some food supplies, toiletries, and educational materials.

He made a suggestion that in addition to implementing government-approved curricula for all aspects of schooling, the center also runs skill-building initiatives.
