The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has recovered an AK-47 rifle concealed in a black cult regalia near an uncompleted building behind Heritage Polytechnic, Ikot Udota, Eket, in Eket Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
John said operatives of the command conducted a search round the uncompleted building following credible intelligence, leading to the recovery of the AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine.
The statement reads in part, “Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the command conducted a search operation at an uncompleted building behind Heritage Polytechnic, Ikot Udota, Eket. During the operation, one AK-47 rifle along with an empty magazine, was discovered concealed in black cult regalia.
“The rifle is suspected to have been hidden by criminal elements, likely in preparation for illegal activities. However, the swift intervention of the Command has thwarted any such plans.”
The command’s PRO who emphasised that efforts were ongoing to arrest those in connection with the rifle, assured that the command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state.
The statement added, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, under the proactive leadership of CP Baba Mohammed Azare, remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for concealing the firearm.
“The Commissioner of Police urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.”
