Speeding caused Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash that killed nine –FRSC

The Federal Roads Safety Corps has blamed excessive speeding and fatigue as the cause of the fatal crash around Ayetoro on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday that claimed nine lives and injured three.

The accident, which occurred at about 5:30 a,m involved a Toyota bus with number plate UYY165ZY and a truck with registration number DKA244XC.

TheNigerian Metro gathered that the bus driver was said to have lost control and rammed into the stationary truck.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the FRSC, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Okpe explained that “The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Monday about 0530HRS on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around the Ayetoro area.

“A total of 13 people were involved, which comprised of 10 male adults and three female adults and nine were recorded killed (six male and three female) while three were injured.

“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and fatigue, which led to loss of control and the driver rammed into a station truck.

“The injured victims were taken to the Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at the Idera morgue Sagamu.

Meanwhile, the sector commander was said to have been pained over the recklessness of some drivers for not observing the stipulated speed limit and refusing to obey the 15-minute rest after a four-hour journey.

He sympathised with the families of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact the Mowe Unit Command for more information about the crash.
