According to the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), a truck collision at the Ilo-Awela axis of the Toll Gate area along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway claimed the lives of at least six people and injured three more.
The accident was reported to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota on Tuesday by Mr. Salau Hammed, the TRACE Divisional Commander for Ota.
According to Hammed, the truck, tricycle, and nine people were involved in the collision, which happened at approximately 9:55 a.m.
As stated An eyewitness told him that a truck heading toward the Toll Gate from Ilo-Awela lost control owing to a failed brake and crashed into a tricycle, other cars, and people.
Three people were badly injured, and six deaths—five male and one female—were reported.
“While the survivors are being treated at Ota General Hospital, the victims’ bodies have been moved to the mortuary at Ifo General Hospital,” he stated.
TRACE staff and sister organizations are on the ground to handle the situation, Hammed said, adding that attempts were being made to remove the wreckage from the highway, including the truck, the impacted cars, and the trike.
He advised drivers to check the condition of their cars before placing them on the road and to avoid speeding.
