The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 94.4 per cent of registered voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the Area Council elections slated for February 21, 2026.
The disclosure was made in a statement issued by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mallam Mohammed Kudu Haruna. He revealed that as of February 10, 2026, the FCT has a total of 1,680,315 registered voters, out of which 1,587,025 have picked up their PVCs, leaving 93,290 cards yet to be collected.
Breaking down the figures across the six Area Councils, INEC described the turnout as impressive. Kuje Area Council recorded the highest collection rate at 97.2 per cent, with 144,109 PVCs collected from 148,286 registered voters. Abaji followed with 95.0 per cent, while the Municipal Area Council, which has the largest voter base, achieved a 94.5 per cent collection rate.
Gwagwalada recorded 94.3 per cent, Bwari posted 93.5 per cent, and Kwali registered 93.1 per cent collection.
Haruna noted that several Registration Areas surpassed 99 per cent in PVC collection, demonstrating strong voter engagement at the grassroots level.
He commended residents for their participation in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise and reminded voters that only those in possession of valid PVCs will be accredited to vote. INEC assured that all preparations have been finalized to deliver a credible and peaceful election.
