FCT Elections: APC Wins AMAC, Bwari, Kwali, Leaves PDP With One Council

In the ongoing elections for the Federal Capital Territory, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won three area councils.

The Independent National Electoral Commission conducted the polls on Saturday in the FCT, AMAC, Bwari, Kwali, Abaji, Gwagwalada, and Kuje area councils.

According to sources, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won Gwagwalada, while the APC has so far won AMAC, Bwari, and Kwali. As of the time of publication, the results for Kuje and Abaji were still pending.

Christopher Maikalangu of the APC, the current chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, was re-elected.

After receiving 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid ballots, Maikalangu was proclaimed the winner by AMAC Collation Officer Prof. Andrew Abue.

Abue reports that the African Democratic Congress candidate received 12,109 votes, compared to 3,398 for the PDP candidate.

He also stated that 2,336 ballots were invalidated, making 65,197 votes cast overall.

Abue added that AMAC had 65,676 accredited voters for the election, compared to 837,338 registered voters.

“Maikalangu is hereby declared elected again, as they received the most votes,” the collation officer declared.

APC candidate Joshua Ishaku was proclaimed the victor of the Bwari Area Council’s chairmanship election.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Nurudeen, declared the results on Sunday, stating that Ishaku received 18,466 votes.

I am the returning officer for the February 21, 2026, FCT Area Council, Bwari chairperson.

Nurudeen stated, “That Joshua Ishaku is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected, having satisfied the requirements of the law.”

The Zenith Labour Party’s nominee received 3,515 votes to finish third, while the ADC candidate received 4,254 votes.

Ten wards in Bwari—Igu, Shere, Dutse, Ushafa, Byazhin, Kuduru, Kubwa, Usuma, Bwari Central, and Kawu—were used for the election.

Daniel Nuhu of the APC secured the chairmanship position in the Kwali Area Council with 17,032 votes.

The PDP’s Haruna Pai, his closest opponent, received 8,575 votes to take second place.

The APC has gained an early lead in the FCT polls, winning three of the six councils that have been named thus far.

According to observers, the focus is now on Abaji and Kuje, where the results should be announced at any time.
