Nenadi Usman, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has urged Julius Abure and his group to run for office again.
Abure and others have the chance to run for the party’s chairmanship and other positions in the next national congress, according to the LP National Chairman.
She urged the resentful members to set aside their self-interests in order to pursue peace and the advancement of the political parties.
Julius Abure was fired as the National Chairman of the Labour Party in January by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Citing the Supreme Court’s 4 April 2025 decision, the judge, Peter Lifu, ruled that Nenadi Usman, the former Finance Minister, was the legitimate leader of the party.
In the absence of the Labour Party’s national convention, the court ruled that INEC must acknowledge the caretaker committee led by Usman as “the only valid authority to represent the Labour Party.”
However, Abure and his caretaker committee have refused to step down. They insisted that they remain in control of the party in a statement released on Tuesday.
“I ask everyone to put the party’s interests ahead of their own. During a one-day high-level strategic multi-level stakeholders meeting at the party’s national secretariat on Wednesday with the subject Reuniting the Labour Party Family: consolidating strength for sustainable political influence, Usman remarked, “Come and let’s work together.”
“And go run for office if you firmly believe that you should have any position in the party congresses.
“If you win, you will be proclaimed the victor and ascend to the position of party leader or whatever role you are running for.”
