Tragic events occurred on Tuesday along the Kwara axis of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso expressway, where five final-year nursing students and a pregnant woman perished in a deadly car accident.
Families and coworkers of the dead were reportedly in grief following the accident, which happened in Kwara State’s Ote region, especially because the students were reportedly en route to take their second semester exams.
According to reports, some of the victims were declared dead at the scene of the collision, while others passed away from their injuries at an unnamed hospital after being sent there for immediate medical attention.
As of the time of writing, there were still few clear information regarding the vehicles involved and the crash’s immediate cause, but it was reported that the impact had seriously disrupted traffic on the busy roadway.
It was discovered that the deceased students were 500-level undergraduates enrolled in an Oyo State university’s Open and Distance Learning Bachelor of Nursing Science program.
According to reports, the unfortunate tragedy happened while they were traveling to take their second semester exams.
Coworkers called the death “heartbreaking and painful,” pointing out that the students were nearing the end of their program, and it has left their academic community in mourning.
Rosemary Alo, the Kwara State Commandant of the Federal route Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the accident, stating that it happened at the Kwara end of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso route, specifically in the Ote region.
“Our staff is collaborating with the Kwara State Command to restore normal traffic flow on the highway,” she stated.
However, she refrained from revealing the number of vehicles involved or the accident’s likely cause right once.
